Photographer’s Note

The Shizutani School was founded in 1670, by Ikeda Mitsumasa, the lord of Okayama. The school provided the education to the sons of Samurai and also commoners. The education at the Shizutani School was based on the Confucianism that was the official ideology of the Tokugawa Shogunate Regime.

Today, the building of the school is opend to the public as a museum. Its stone walls are very unique in Japan.
