This was taken along the canal in the historic Bikan quarter of Kurashiki. I thought that the "blue mood" of the autumn afternoon tied in well with the vivid colors of the autumn vegetation.

Kurashiki (倉敷市), a few kilometers west of Okayama, was a center for storing rice harvested in the surrounding, fertile regions during the Edo period. Literally meaning something like "storehouse town", Kurashiki was direcly administered by the Edo shogunate for its economically strategic importance. Several dozens of these well-preserved storehouses (kura, 倉) can still be found in the historic Bikan district along a picturesque, willow-lined canal - these days, they are home to restaurants, shops and guesthouses. Not a single English-language sign in sight, which increases the impact on a gaijin (foreign) visitor like me.

The white building in the middle, to the left of the prominent well-groomed tree, is the Ryokan Tsurugata, a Japanese guest house in which during my first visit in April 2006 I had spent the night and had been treated to wonderful Japanese hospitality as well as an amazing kaiseki ryori dinner.

Hi Norbert

Good overall exposure, with just a touch of oe in the cloud highlights. On the other hand, the reflections & shadow details are superb, so the sacrifice was definitely worth it. Tfs!

Bonjour Norbert,

Best regards from Liège.
Daniel.

Hello Norbert,

a beautiful view,a great perspective and clarity in the scene in your capture can see with a pleasance.don't wonder if I say that I love that kind of big tree there in right, because I love Bonsai trees, although I have not in my home but always I follow and see the works in Bonsai method, and You know well that Bonsai has a Japan Root,...anyway,a great informative shot and very attractive, nicely composed and Thanks Norbert,
Best

Hi Norbert
Beautiful afternoon view. The 'blueness' makes it quite calm and tranquil. I also like the perspective here with the embankment leading us into the depth, a classic composition. Good documentary shot of the place.

well I know the atmosphere from the highlights in the sjot Norbert,
I like the point of view, the light was not optimal but the photographer did do his best here, very nice perspective, and with the light yes you need also a little bit luck, good job Norbert.

Hello Norbert,

A pleasant, but unremarkable scene for Japan, but you've made it into a most appealing image. The artistic and technical aspects of the photograph are first rate, and that note "no signs in English," I can identify with the frustration. On a visit to a number of cities in Japan, my wife and I felt that frustration, not being able to find our ways. Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Norbert,
I don't think I've ever seen the delicate beauty of weeping willows captured quite so well. In addition to your perfect focus and light management, the mass effect of the row of willows along the canal multipied by their reflection is just magic. HLJ, Pat

Norbert,
Good composition with your angular POV using the waterway to lead the eye through the photo. The color and lighting are good with nice sharpness.
The reflection is the water is nice as well.
TFS,
Asa

Hi Norbert. I can certainly see why you would call this shot as you did. It almost feels as if you used a polarizer here. I'm surprised to see such a lack of people from one of your photos. I guess I'm starting to take that for granted! Good shot Norbert.

Hi Norbert,
Great perspective, nice POV. Beautiful composition with beautiful lighting, colours and reflection. Good work my friend...
Have a nice day...

Nice use of the diagonal lines of the landscape and canal in this fine setting from Japan Norbert. The afternoon light is good for the final result and underlining the mood of the place.

Hi NOrbert, i like the blue and green tones and colours of the image.
there is also a good line of perspective here..
The reflection on the water is very good.
ciao!
Valeria

Hi, Norbert. A very good perspective here with the canal leading into the picture. Nice reflections on the water. I like how the different shades of green wontrast with the grey sky. And, as usual, a very interesting note.

Salut Norbert,
Tout me parait miniaturisé dans ta photo riche en éléments et en couleurs.
De la profondeur avec ce canal. C'est encore un de tes charmants tableaux japonais.
Excellente fin de journée.

Boy.. you sure get around. Another beauty Norbert. I've always have heard how beautiful Japan can be, and this attest to that. Your capture of the color an light, in spite of what looks like a cloudy sky is quite good. I also like the pov you used with the water fronting the scent. Outstanding.

Hi Norbert,
I think what catches my eye here are the variety of colours found within the trees along the bank of the canal....they really add life to the image.Nicely composed with the view down the canal and a good cut of the sky.
Regards, David

Hello Norbert,
Très joli endroit sous un beau ciel.
De belles couleurs sous une lumière agréable et de jolis reflets dans cette eau tranquille;
Excellent dimanche,
Denise

Hello Norbert,

Good angle which let us see around the beautiful Japanese landscape. But here what impresses me even more is the way the trees are manicured ( There must be a better word to explain how the japanese care about their trees ). Best - Izzet

Hi Norbert
Blue and green you mean......
Lovely trees and atmosphere there.
Thanks
greetings Albrecht
