Many moons ago I posted a number of photos taken during my brief stay in Miyajima, mainly of the famous torii. Amongst them I had a photo titled Morning Prayer in which a man faced the torii in silent prayer. Here he is walking away having stood still for a long time as the morning sun rose. Initially he and I were the only people there at about seven in the morning.

hi klaudio. i am struck with the poetry in the words "many moons ago". whether it is a common term, i hear it for the first time and love it :) the photo is definitely an eye-catcher with the bright colors of the torii glowing amongst cold hues. the puddle makes nice reflections and the walking figure is essential to give an idea about the enormous size of the torii. composition is very well balanced.

Hello Klaudio. Nice subject, amazing contrasting orange. Good use of the pine branches. Good also with the bit a reflection in the puddle. The man walking away is a welcome inclusion. Best regards, Claude.

Cette forme spectaculaire est superbement placée dans l'image, entre les branches des arbres.J'aime que tu aies laissé l'homme devant.Il donne une très belle relation dimensionnelle.La luminosité fait bien ressortir lorange.

Beautiful framing of a well composed scene. I like the peaceful atmosphere and the sober colours of the early morning light. The fiery orange torri, perfectly placed on a strong line, is an attractive focal point that has a lot of impact. The inclusion of the figure leaving the frame gives a sense of scale and emphasizes the desolation of the place. A very pleasant picture and a moment of serenity that soothes my mind.

Hello Klaudio ,
I remember very well your serie from this place . This one is exellent , too . The orange torii stands up , beautifully framed by the branches of pine trees .

The torii has normally already an attractive vivid red colour. The morning light here underlines that even much stronger and you looked for a POV to include the dark overhanging branches. The result isn't only a better composition but now the torii stands out as wonderfully as it gets.
I also like those red reflections in the puddle.
Best regards, Paul

Very good POV, with the leaves in the foreground as a natural frame for the picture. The man on the left adds a nice scale. I had already seen photos of this monument but I didn't understand it was so big. Excellent light and colours too.

la presenza della persona è essenziale per capire le dimensioni di questo simbolo.
Molto bella la composizione, il torii è posizionato perfettamente nella foto e il suo colore è di grande effetto nei confronti del paesaggio.

what a difference it makes having the person walking on the left! really makes a strong impact for the overall photo.
and yes, that lighting on the Torii. Must have been a special moment, well captured

A shot that emanates tranquility I think. The orange glow of the torii as the sun hits it is beautiful and well framed by the tree branches in the foreground. The tiny man walking away is the detail that tops it all off and in a way balances out the composition. Lovely.

Superb iconic image from that amazing part of the world. I admire a lot their traditions and way of seeing life...
Have a good weekend.

This stunning location was high on my list of things to visit while in Japan, and despite three visit in this country, I haven't managed to see it yet.
It is surely one of the iconic Torii of Japan, one of the most picturesque, and you have created a beautiful version of your own. I like the old man, apparently dressed in traditional clothing, that walk away from the structure, while providing a sense of proportion. Light is really beautiful, filtered all around, but appearing to be beaming uniquely on the red poles. Good use of the tree branches to frame the landscape. Great work!

potpuno si dočarao mesto, vreme i tiinu mesta! Veličinu torri-ja moguće je shvatiti tek kada se uporedi sa veličinom čoveka!

Hi Klaudio, Do you remember? I asked you about the name of this place, I forgot it and tried to recall for some days. And you forgot it either :). of course, it is famous Miyajima. i like this composition taken in the low tide, when it is possible to walk to the torii. usually they shot it surrounded by water. good that you have here the man in this composition, it provides the scale. i like the framing of the pine branches. Nice reflections in the puddle. lovely shot.

I get the feeling of quietness when looking at your picture. the orange hues burst out of the nature colors and the lonely man equilibrates the shot.

A very well composed scene, the bright orange tori, draws the eye and is a strong focal point. The man walking away from the scene is a nice touch.

Morning atmosphere is perfectly represented in this picture. The composition, daily-life scene, light, colors and highly interesting details make the picture looking extremely aesthetic. Excellent presentation of this sacred place in early morning!

A shot which has stirred my curiosity because of its content and has stirred my admiration because of its beauty and its simplicity.
Your notes have explained what I did not understand and, as such, the small figure has taken on far more significance. The bowing branches and the bright reflections are details that add extra interest to the shot.
My warm regards,
Angshu (56462) 2013-11-20 22:29
The luminescence of the bright torii gate immediately captures attention. Indeed I do remember your earlier posts from this very place. Like Deniz, I am hearing the phrase 'Many moons ago' for the first time, but I like it!
siudzi (34131) 2013-11-20 23:23
Beautiful scene here! The morning lights captured at this interesting place gave a fantastic result to make it eye catching and attractive. Perfectly seen and composed one. Like it a lot!

The vivid colours are lovely and well reflected. Great framing with the branches. The man walking gives scale and is a nice addition. A lovely image - very well done.

Really beautiful! The morning sun on the torii makes it stand out so well. I like the way you used the branches to frame it and the man makes it look so big. A beautiful moment and composition!
vjmite (4066) 2013-11-29 23:00
The low light on the torii is exquisite, as are the fragmented reflections in the water. The man on the left gives a good balance to the composition.

You are all over the world. I have not yet been to Japan, but this is so fitting to my imagination of what it would be like. The morning light illuminated the torii so beuatifully setting apart from the mute background. the inclusion of the person add another dimension and completes this composition perfectly. Excellent image with good details, colors, and light management.

Hi Klaudio !!
this is a very well composed photo incorporating several elements that add great interest to the image.
Lovely early morning colours. The presence of the man helps to understand the scale of the Torii.
it is a delight to look at this photo. Well done.

it's a really wonderful, very beautiful view... I love the ambiance, this special atmosphere which, it seems to me, we can find only in Japan - with all its monuments, temples, gates, traditions... you were very lucky to have visited Japan! it's long been my dream to visit it, too... maybe in the near future I'll try to make this dream come true.. and in any case, let all YOUR dreams come true, whatever you wish and whatever you do, in the coming New Year!
Let this Christmas season be quiet, peaceful and happy for you and yours!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS !! with all mew arm wishes - directly from Stockholm!:)

Achieved a wonderful contrast with the golden tone on gate, Klaudio, the shining morning rays were perfect upon.
The misty surrounding on far, and the green trees and grass on FG, employed well on pic. space.
Fine composed shot.
