Photographer’s Note

9 am, The torii, portico that are the characteristics of the shintoism, are located in front of us. We are passing them to climb in direction of our target, that seems to be so far and so high.
I arrive to that white torii. I'm so tired that I lean on it. There is some coins of 1 yen inside the craks. I put also one to pay the rest of the climbing. There is no indication of the altitude, no marks, but the house on the top do not seem to approach. Each time I have a look, it is always so far. And here, a japanese guy all dressed in white with sport shoes, pass me in running. To cut the rest of wilingness you have it is the best. I stop and seat on the next rock. I have not the time to take my camera, He has alreday disapeared...

Quand je suis desendu dans le Canyon du cuivre pour aller nager dans les sources d'eau chaude, après sur le chemin du retour, les 2 enfants idiens nous ont dépassé de la sorte également... Je comprends donc votre sentiment!
Sinon, c'est une belle photo où la sensation "j'y arriverai jamais" est bien illustrée. Bravo!

Le paysage aride des roches volcaniques et la perspective avec le torii blanc vers le haut font qu'on se sent tout petit en regardant cette photo. Belle réussite ! On en veut encore ;-)

Yes - I know the problem - its hard to see altitude on a shot like this - but you manege very well Jacques - I wonder if this a vulcano as well - thanks for sharing this special photo - I like to watch the scenary.

This is a very exciting capture Jacques. What a dramatic slope you portray here. Love all the earth-tones with the blue sky. The person is essential for the sense of scale. Great job!

Vos sentiments face à cette quête inaccessible sont bien relatés dans vos notes. Cela me rappel l'ascension du Mont Cameroun (4100m), ou je sentais mes jambe comme du coton et le froid me tenailler le crâne.
Mais que symbolise au juste un " shintoïsmee " ? C'est un symbole religieux ? ...Comme les croix que l'on trouve régulièrement dans nos campagnes d'Europe.

Dur la ballade sur les scories !
Lors de mes anciennes randonnées en montagne, je porte toujours dans ma poche un altimètre qui me sert aussi de baromètre qui est fort utile pour les prévisions d'orages.
Je constate que les scories sont différentes de la lave du Cantal.
Bon courage pour la suite.
C'est grandiose !

La contre plongée est impressionante ici et nous donne un belle appercus de cette montée spectaculaire.
J'aime bien cette expression que je ne connaissait pas "Acheter sa montée"..La note ici nous donne une partie de votre aventure .

You are very lucky to get the blue sky at this time. It is the rainy season in ordinary year. It hardly rained this year.
This image is the scene got it used to seeing too much on the magazine and calendar for us japanese.

A very nice image, Jacques, of the volcanic surrounding, the altitude, the steep ascent and the always distant finish. Beautiful composition - it seems you have some strength, despite the all-out effort in the thin air - with the high ridge, the white torii in a very good position toward the blue sky and the big rocks in a diagonal across the volcanic field. Very well done!

Very interesting this place, and yes I think quite a tough hike in that kind of soil.
