This picture was taken in Gifu Prefecture, the same day I shot the row of boats. It was pretty dark but I managed to capture the mist in the background, I took several shots at this and then the mist dissappeared so I was quite lucky to get this effect I guess.

Yes, these mushroom stone shaped objects were actually used in Japanese gardens back in the days when they didnt have electricity and they would put candles inside to light up the garden, I dont think they use them for the same purposes nowadays.

I hope you like this shot

I will be in Hong Kong from today for 5 days and then Malaysia for 5 days, see you when I get back TE friends

Hi Dan
Nice composition with a beautifull light.
The composition is also interesting.
Well done
Bertrand

The layer of mist gives a nice atmospheric component, Dan. The framing is also pleasant, with a good depth accomplished by the alignment of details, and a good linking element provided by the bridge in the middle.

Have a good trip. - I have worked on my Japan itinerary and will e-mail you a current version in a few days (I'll probably be in Nagoya on Apr 4 and 5).

Hi Dan,
Great shot! Interesting foreground and background, and beautifully composed. I suppose that because it was dark and misty, the image looks a bit washed out, but this can be corrected in photoshop. I've done a workshop with a few other enhancements too - let me know what you think.

Hi Dan,
Nice and clever idea. You thought this picture well. You created a very nice atmosphere here.
Cheers!

Hi Dan, It looks that there is a giant frog on the island in the pond. Good capture of the mist and the mystic mood around the pond. Good composition.

Great depth and mist Dan, and thanks for the info regarding the usage of the mushrooms. Well done with the 1/8 - if you had dropped to 1/6 the NR would have helped you - would that have been better or worse do you think?

Hej Dan,
Well taken picture, in a good composition. I like the mist above the water. Good work.
Hilsner,
Lars

Hi Dan. Thanks for explaining what that was otherwise I would have been clueless! My only comment is that you might be able to bump up the sharpness. Nicely done Dan.

Hi Dan
very nice picture and with good composition
the misty well captured
maybe slightly contrast and sharpening would make it more wonderful, I think Rob's WS is useful

Hi Dan

I like the soft focus & flattened perspective from the zoom, & the green stone frog. Good mood & atmosphere from the fog. Well done!

What a lovely peaceful atmosphere you have captured in this Japanese garden shot, Dan. I like the mist and soft colours. Good compo too. Cheers . . . David

It looks like a shuimohua(I don't know it in english, a drawing by using black liquid that is) misty mossy freezing garden that loooks to be out of this century. How could old ancestors tolerate this chilly weather?? I hope you will have a good trip!

Hi Dan - Lord of the rings meets the orient, fantastic atmosphere, the retouched WS version even better, have a great trip.

Dan,
this is a very good one with a very poetic subject and a special mood due to the alternance of the big "mushrom stone" and the nice misty place.
All is beauty here,
I like it

This is how I imagine your country ! A typical shot I wish I could see for real... The WS is quite pertinent.

What a garden presented in this well made compo Dan. Great details and a fine mood. Should I make a wish I had liked a little reduction of light to have some more contrast. Still a fine overall impression. Good work.

Hi Dan, I like the misty effects and the soft background. It looks really artistic and photo well composed.

P.S. You should have contacted me when you are in Malaysia so we can have a TE meet.

Hello Dan.

Nice shot, wonderful composition.
I really like the idea, specially the fog above the water.

Well done Regards!!!

I was back in Gifu as a tourist a month ago (after living there for 3years), and for the first time I came across this mist in Gifu Koen... awesome and mysterious.
Kenny, your picture shows it beautifully, clear focus on the stone lantern with a lovely amount of light... my pictures of the same were much darker... so good on you :-)
