This picture is taken in Shiragawago. This place is well known for its thatched roofs, or "gassho-zukuri"-roofs. It is indeed very spectacular and is a World Heritage village. These roofs are constructed to carry snow up to two meters. To renew the roof it take two hundred men two day’s to do it. Half a roof cost 100,000 USD and lots of sake and rice.
It is easy to go there, you can take a bus from Takayama, it takes you in 2h and 20 minutes to Shirakawago. There are only three buses each day going there so it is wise to make a reservation.
Oh and I do come from Holland well known for its dairy products but for me the best milk ever is the Hida milk. I bought it in Shirakawago ¥150 per bottle, about 150cc, very expensive, about 10 USD a liter but hey it is delicious, well like all other Japanese food.

Good work, and sharp colours. Very clear image of an interesting place. I like the name to. I also love japanese food and Japan, but I have never been there.
