Photographer’s Note
Hida Folk Village (Hida no Sato) is an open air museum exhibiting over 30 typical farmhouses and other traditional buildings from the Hida region, the mountainous district of Gifu Prefecture around Takayama.
The museum's main attractions are a number of gassho-zukuri houses. The massive farmhouses with their steep, thatched roofs which look like praying hands ("gassho-zukuri") were moved here from the nearby Shirakawago valley.
All exhibited buildings are carefully preserved, display everyday utensils and are open to the public to explore. Last but not least, the buildings' indoor fireplaces are lit every morning, making this outstanding open air museum a treat not only for the eyes but also for the nose.

Hi, George.
I have once been to there(Hida no sato) but it was in autumn. I didn't see any snow nor anything white but beautiful colouring pallet all over the mountain. Keep on shootig and informing us the life and culture in Gifu.

I like the contrast of balack and white. Very moody and the inclusion of that photographer in red jcaket certainly is a bonus. Good work George!

Hello George
Last year we visited Hida Folk Village to see the traditional buildings - but it was a hot day. So it is interesting to see this location in very different weather. Well composed with the red-jacketed photographer in the centre, TFS, Marlene
