Demonstration of Karakuri Doll in Theater of Karakuri (Shishi Kaikan ) - Hida Takayama.
The history of the Karakuri Doll (automated doll) begins in 1617 in Edo (Tokyo) when the watch of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa needed to be repaired. While trying to repair the watch, the reapirman was fascinated by the interaction of watch´s cogs, wheels and springs. This system was copied and used in the making of the first Karakuri Dolls by Japanese artisans.

Interesting story and nicely presented scene with the puppets. If I well understand - one of them nude and the second one (in the background) adorned with a garment of some sort ?
