I went to Gifu on my day off with a friend and I took this. I just wanted to make the castle stand out and look grand at the same time.

Here is more information

Picturesque Gifu is located on the Nagara River mid-way between Tokyo and Kyoto. About 2 million people live in Gifu which is the urban center in a rich agricultural area.

With a history stretching back 1,000 years, Gifu Castle was the site of many famous Japanese battles. The mammoth castle overlooks the Nagara River, well-positioned for tourists. Tourism is important to Gifu.

Cormorant fishing and Mount Kinsha National Forest are also major attractions.

Gifu’s industry is diverse and prosperous. It spans from high-tech aircraft manufacturing to textiles to traditional paper lanterns and umbrellas.

Gifu became Cincinnati’s second Sister City in 1988. The two sister cities have an active exchange program ranging from business to cultural to governmental exchanges.

I hope you like it

Hi Dan.
I like your composition and I think that you make a very suggerent photo.
That diagonal crossing the photo, the dark, even black, forest again an almost white sky.
Really good.

Thanks for share.

Hi Dan, Nice highlight to the castle on the top. I like the composition of the mountain cut the image into half diagonally. Interesting to see the new castle sitting on the top of the hill with snow visible on the slopes.

Hej Dan,
Very simple but well composed picture. The castle on top there looks very nicely, well captured.

Hi Dan,
Graphism and contrast are nice here, good compo too with a strong diagonal line. The castle on top is a surprising detail.
Greetings,
Hermann

Hi Dan. I can see why you'd be drawn to this graphical scene. The simplicity of it all is what I like the most. This is probably one of the most unique compositions I've ever seen from this place. tfs Dan.

Hi Dan

I like the the diagonal bifurcation of the image into 2 halves here, of black & white. Good pov, & the castle stands out prominently. Well done!

Good use of the diagonal dan and displaying the castle at the top. Still I think I had wanted to see more of the castle (maybe to come in a later shot).

Hi Dan - this shot reminds me of the TV-series "Shogun" - The diagonal line with the castle at top well chosen indeed - I saw your R1 in a shop the other day - a quite big camera which makes good shot - thanks for sharing with us.

Hi Dan,
Very original to take that rough diagonal line just to show us a glimpse of that beautiful tower. Many of us will never have the idea to do this. Well done.
