My 1.100th photo goes back to Nagoya, where at the end of a fun day of shooting with Lauryn a year ago, I took this picture on the "water spaceship" roof of the futuristic-looking Oasis 21 complex in the Sakae district.

Oasis 21, one of Nagoya's newest downtown landmarks, opened to the public in 2002 and accommodates the city's highway bus terminal and several shops and restaurants. The environmentally friendly project has won an award for its eye-catching roof, a huge glass oval filled with water and designed to reduce heat transfer to the commercial space below as well as to catch rainwater for the lawn in the park directly below it. The open space at the bottom of the structure, called the Milky Way Square, is surrounded by shops and restaurants. Special events are often held in the square.

I would like to dedicate this upload to my friend Francis, who sadly (but understandably) has decided to leave TE. I have met him a couple of times in Tokyo, and his sometimes literally in-the-face depictions of daily life in Japan (both visually and verbally) will be missed here.

ISO 320, 1/10 sec, handheld.

Hello Norbert,

A+

Good night shot, with exposure that is handled really well, considering the huge contrast that exists in the shot. I like the sense of place in this shot, as it is easy for us to imagine that we are there too, walking under the lights. Nice work and congratulations on 1,100!

Hi Norbert
this is a nicely composed night shot with the golden tower acting as a focal point and the walkway with the people leading us towards it. The shiny, curved surface looks almost unreal and adds to the space-age feel of the place. And congrats on the 1100th!
Regards, Susanna

Hi, Norbert. I like how the beautiful curve leads us into the picture towards the tower in the background. Everything looks futuristic here and the flashy colours contrast well with each other. I'm almost disappointed to see 'normal' people walking here and no Martians.

Bonsoir, mon bon ami Norbert,
Philippe

Hi Norbert,
Congratulations on your prolific posting milestone - wow, that's alot of shots! This one is a winner - great composition in stunning night light yet very detailed and precise in composition. Great shot and TFS. Gerald

Hello Norbert. The first thing that strikes me is your impeccable image quality. It looks like you were 15 or 20 minutes from the peak of blue hour but you still got a great result. I do like the futuristic and modern feel to it as well. Nice one!

Hi Norbert

For a moment, I thought this was Paris, & I had to look twice at the heading. Good sharpness & colour, with beautiful lead in lines, & the people add scale. Tfs!

Hallo Norbert,
I like here the sophistication and the nice curve of this lit walkway, as usual I see you relied on your SupersteadyNorbert technique that you hopefully could sell to Sony for their DSLRs... This view had potential for taking the 12-24 out of the bag (do you still have it ?), this could have had an interesting effect on the foreground and curve, and would have freed a bit of space around the tower. I agree a person like Francis will be sadly missed, at this pace we'll soon be a few dinosaurs left here...
Have a nice day, JY

Hi Norbert. I remember the day, and it surprises me that you took pics soo clearly and sharp without a tripod while I took only blurry shots then. I don't know... your arms are made of steels so they are firm like a tripod. Anyways this is amazingly sharp picture despite the hand held shot. Exposure is lovely too. I learn how to take a landscape pic from this. How are you? you are also in sleeping mode?

Bonjour Norbert
J'apprécie la photo nocturne, jusqu'à présent j'ai présenté des monuments et des églises.
Tandis que toi tu présentes des images nocturnes avec des personnes et des scènes de la vie quotidienne avec une parfaite maitrise de la lumière.
Cordialement.

Hi Norbert, beautiful light in this picture, what I like the most is the reflection of the tower and the curving ramp toward the tower, gorgeous to my eyes, well composed !

Norbert,
amazing sharpness. I'm sure that the tripod industry is glad that not everyone has this stability as you do, otherwise they would go into bankrupcy. The different light sources provides an interesting palette in colors despite of the pitch balck sky.
Happy New Year!
Peter
