This early-evening photo was taken on the "water spaceship" roof of the futuristic-looking Oasis 21 complex in downtown Nagoya's Sakae district, towards the end of my day of shooting with Lauryn. As you can see, the folks in front of me were also busy photographing.

Oasis 21, one of Nagoya's newest downtown landmarks, opened to the public in 2002 and accommodates the city's highway bus terminal and several shops and restaurants. The environmentally friendly project has won an award for its eye-catching roof, a huge glass oval filled with water and designed to reduce heat transfer to the commercial space below as well as to catch rainwater for the lawn in the park directly below it. The open space at the bottom of the structure, called the Milky Way Square, is surrounded by shops and restaurants. Special events are often held in the square.

To the left you can see the Nagoya TV Tower (名古屋テレビ塔; Nagoya Terebi-tō). It is the oldest TV tower in Japan, and was completed in 1954. The tower is 180 meters high, and has two observation decks at the heights of 30 and 100 meters. It bears some resemblance to the Eiffel Tower.

ISO 320, 1/10 sec, handheld.

Oh look! It's the Eiffel Tower!
I love how you have managed to keep the large and high tower in the same frame with the woman taking pictures of it with her mobile telephone. It seems that wherever one goes these days everyone is shooting away at one thing or the other...

What also works for me in this shot is the man poised on the side, waiting perhaps for the picture of the young lady? And the curve of the road, the strange yellow illumination down below and the people obviously going for the tower... :D

A lovely timing with the blue sky coming to contrast with the orange tower and the rest of the brighter tones in the shot. Wonderful work. Excellent shot! TFS!
Julia

Bonjour, cher Norbert,

Hi Norbert
Lovely blue hour shot with attractive colours and a skilful composition with the inclusion of the two people in the foreground whose postures you have captured so well. I like the smooth shiny textures and the reflections.
Regards, Susanna

Salut Norbert,

Impeccable!

André

Hi Norbert,
excellent shot! Very nice framing and POV.
Great colors and sharpness. I like the fact that you included the girl and the guy at the picture.

Have a nice day,
Chrysoula.

Hello Norbert,
Best regards and a good weekend,
Denise

I'm with Zepi here, Norbert, terrific job of toning here, but the composition is extremely sound too. I would describe this one as enchanting, the way you use the vertical frame, creating tension from the string of the balloon.
And the colors...wow!
Great stuff,
Francis

Olá Norbert, in the thumbnails it made me remember Paris, but when I clicked, discovered this interesting futuristic walkway. You made a spectacular perspective at the beautiful blue our. The girl at right is funny, but I also love the pose of the woman at left. Also nice capture of the reflections of the tower on the high tech foreground. Excellent shot!
Ricardo

Hallo Norbert,
Nice and crisp shot.
I know that you prefer to include people in the scene, the left walking is OK, but I do not like the right picturing since she's cutted.
Regards
Didier

Hey Norbert,

shooting photographers is a fun thing, and here you placed her in such a way that the whole scene unfolds as if we are her, or atleast in her position. But damn, a cam phone at night? Maybe it would be good for those grainy blurs..wait, I like those:)

Awesome colors, probably the best hours of the day to shoot, IMO. I like pretty much the way you've cropped framed the photographing fellow, which adds the interest bonus here, leading your image off the beaten postcard trail.

I would cheat a bit if I were you, I gather that the glaring white reflection right in the centre takes too much importance compared to the colors around. Hence I would take my history brush and try to reduce the brightness of that white area, using say an overlay blending mode.

Norbert,
You have done a great job of catching the blue hour here. The natural lighting is great here with the lights on the buildings accenting it. The photo has excellent color and sharpness.
TFS,
Asa

Good work Norbert. As so often the tech in place - but for sure a fine inclusion of details here where I particulary like the woman in the corner making her super shot of the place. And of course 'the blue hour' always a fine detail..

Great composition and a fantastic job hand holding at 1/10 shutter speed! I'm enjoying your recent Japanese series of photos

John.

Terrific shot! I like the lighting in this, with different elements having different lighting. I especially like the reflections off the walkway, which is unusual and helps to breat up the lower part of the scene. Well done!

This is like an open space node in the city. You have a very nice angle on this photo and a very well balanced composition. The flooring of this roof reminds me of the flooring of the Sundial Bridge in Redding, California done by Calatrava. Very nice Norbert.

nice shot Norbert, it reminds me of my third home (place), very good sharp shot and of the others taking photos, nice colours attained too, well done

Hi Norbert,
Is is the eiffel tower from Japan??
Your POV is just great...I really like the position of the person on the right..
Good light and exposure too.
Alex

I think you did another wonderful photo in this place. This one is also nice, I love the modern look of everything around... Have you seen "Babel" by Alejandro González Iñárritu? Enjoy Japan Norbert.

Hello Norbert,
A good night shot indeed, the vertical format is well choice and this shot is very sharp. The lights and colors are lovely.
A good work!

Bonjour Norbert,
Daniel.

Hi Norbert.
There are several elements that make this picture very special in my eyes - The person who stands wuth his back to the camear, the girl with the cellphone (and I like tha way she stans, and the fact that we can see the screen, and the wonderful reflections on the wet pavement. Beautiful pic.

Only 1 word for this shot : Brillant.
What else...

Hi Norbert,
Beautiful composition.
Beautiful japonese Eifel tower, beautiful pov and perspective.
Great colors and light.

Hi Norbert

Good catch of the contorted photographer at right, with superb overall colour, sharpness, & exposure. I like the blue & yellow colour combination. Tfs!

Salut Norbert,
Bon WE à toi
Philippe

Hello Norbert,

You have really come to master these situations, with trick lights, modern sets, and you know how to take out the most from these places at the best hour.
I also wish you an excellent week-end.
PS: My wife just broke her ankle when she missed a step, and it doesnt't seem that we'll be on the move before a month.

Hi Norbert,

Hi Norbert
Time is a rarity and so I missed many beautiful shot from you.
this one appeals to me particularly, must be the futuristic view and the composition with the lady in the lower right corner taking the same photo with her cell phone, which gives balanced to the composition.it should not have been easy to fit everything in the frame,a tight fit
Have a good WE

Wow...i love it!

Hi Norbert,
Lovely blue hour scene and a rare vertical framing of yours, the pathway curving around the tower provides graphism, depth and dynamism, the people add some life and the so typically Japanese everyday everywhere with any possible device shooting touch !

Hello Norbert
As usual you have still a good control of the twilight exposure; we can see good details in this sharp composition.
I wish you a merry christmas.
Cheers.

Hello Norbert,

Very nice shot with good sharpness and colors. The composition is also very nice. Congratulations !

Christophe

Very clear and wonderful shot for a handheld. The depth is very fine and the colors very well. Nice job my friend.
