Photographer’s Note
It was one of her first days in Ambon's university: she had to undergo the same procedure like all her older fellow students had to, when they started to study.
The 'beginners' were made to obey their older fellow students, had to show their gratitude and were made full of sand all over their body. Was funny to watch for me, but most likely not funny for them.

ein Bild das viel über die menschliche Seele aussagt und auch vielen ist die Situation auch bekannt. Vom amerikanischen Militär bis zu deutschen Schülerheimen bis hin zu den Initiationsriten von Naturvölkern zieht sich dieser wundersame Brauch.

Hi Daniel!
I didn't know that, these hazing for students, that I often have observed in our western societies, were also practised in Indonesia! You made a good close-up that shows quite well her distress and anxiety, and also the level of humiliations new students are going through.
