Photographer's Note
Finally, after an extensive absence I have pleasure in posting again.
I have just returned from Sulawesi, which was my first visit to Indonesia, while not being as photogenic as other countries I have visited, the nature, the culture and the warm, friendly people made it a great vacation.
I am still ploughing through photos but hope to share a series takign you on a journey through Sulawesi and thereby puttign Sulawesi on the Trekearth map. (suprisingly few photos here).
Again my TE philosophy we pervail, as I teach you about Sulawesi through the medium of photography, posting sometimes less then perfct photos to tell the story.
So where do we begin --- why not my first stop. Northern Sulawesi, on a beautiful 3 km unspoilt beach, jungle to the waters edge. A few cottages to rent on the beach only 12 europeans stayign there and the others were divers, and what do divers do all day -- dive. Therefore, we had the entire beach to ourselves sharign only with a few stray dogs and manybirds and butterflies. As non-divers we enjoyed snorkelling in the coral reef just a few meters from shore. You can see the coral reef very cleary in the photo and the channel that the fisherman have made to allow access to the sea. In the distance two volcanos and the Tangkoko National park, we wil come to that later. For now enjoy the tranquility, it may not last........I will explain later.
Good to be back.
Elaine

Elaine...!!!!
Groetjes, Henk

Hello Elaine,
Nice to see you back. This is a beautiful view and a well composed picture with lovely varieties of blue in the sea. Your description of the beach sounds very tempting (except for the stray dogs). Was there any village nearby, or how did you get food?
Best regards,
Gert

Elaine,
Welcome back, I was wondering what happen to you. I hope all is fine and that you're doing well. I was expecting some great portraits, I'm sure that will come in the near future. I'm looking forward to them. I love the serene and nature of this shot. Love all the rainforest atmosphere and the pristine ocean, white sandy beach and the mountain and sky with nice puffy clouds complete this composition just beautifully. Love the beautiful and natural color and light. Thanks for bringing us this rarely seen or heard of place.

Dear Elaine
Not something we see from you often...landscapes! Once in a while it is also wothwhile to have a bit of variation as well. Whatever you post is admirable anyway! Those volcanoes in the BG...they provide a lovely backdrop to the blue water, I'm sure you enjoyed snorkelling there! A new place for me to see. Lovely shot!
Best Regards

Hello Elaine,
This is a fine landscape composition, and interesting to see how tight the forest borders the sea!
Rich colours, in particular the green is attractive and the fluffy white clouds add interest value...
Well composed, the diagonal slope adds dynamics!

Hi Elaine
Not so simple as it may appear, to obtain this shot! The high POV shows us well the jungle, the beach and the volcano in the far background; the colors stick well to reality, while you brilliantly avoid the overexposure, which is sometimes difficult under the harsh light of the tropics. And the story, of course (and its conclusion in "green not gold") is worth a read too. Well done!
Regards
Marine
