Photographers Note
Classic view of Bromo and Semeru volcanoes from Penenjakan viewpoint after sunrise., 45mm. focal length. Semeru is the big volcano at the back, seen erupting ash. Bromo occupies the lower left quadrant and spews sulphurous vapor. There were at least 200 people around me taking the same photo.

Hi Tan,
Quite an alien landscape if there ever was/is one. The plumes of hot smoke must carry for many a mile. I like the way the underlying clouds in the background also have a mountainous feel to them, comparing well to the ups and downs of these rocky golden chimneys.
All the best, Casper

Hi Tan,
Incredible view. There's so many cones of volcanoes and at least two of them active. Perfect warm toned sidelight that gives very strong 3D effect. Direction of wind is quite favourable too.

Hello Tan,
This is a beautiful view of these amazing volcanoes.
I like the warm colors and the smoke coming out of the volcano.
Maybe you should have taken a lower focal length or tried a panoramic view, I think the landscape worths it.

Hello Tan:
I don't know about the other 200 people, but this one photo of yours is an excellent capture. How early you woke up to make this picture? It was simply worth it.
The orange tinge on the nearby peaks give the picture a sort of 'warm' mood, but I think it could have been cold up there at that moment. And the plumes of smoke coming out of the big volcano make the sceneary like one from another planet.
An excellent picture.

Hi Tan!
As usual, a superb photograph, with excellent pov, composition, colors, light, textures, sharpness, on and on...
However, what mostly attracted me to it, was its objects: Volcanoes! I love them and fortunately I was able to visit and even climb some of them (Vesuvius - Italy and Villarrica - Chile)! Always a pleasure to see them here, thank you!

Hi Tan
I can understand why 201 people would take a photo of this. It's really spectacular. Your composition is excellent with the different cones. However I find the pp a bit tern like an old photo. This is personnel as you can probably guess that I prefer stronger colours and contrasts. Anyway I did a WS for you.

Hello Tan
What more can I say! A shot of breathtaking beauty. A classical shot alright, from this popular POV as you said in the last line of your note, but what a view! Since you've travelled across the globe, is it one of those images which stay on in your mind for a long time? What are those tiny white mountain like structures in the horizon, they look snowcapped mountains, but they can't be! This is a stunner!

Tan,
this is a fantastic images of these vocanoes, great DoF, cleary visible all the way back to the horizon. Perfect composition. Perfect time of day, the effort really paid off here, to go there early to catch such a scenery. What a moment. Technically may not be your best, I the sharpness is not as good as most of your other shots. I'm being more critical on you than othere, just because I very high expectation from you, that is perfection.

Hi Tan,
You've presented an image evocative of the earth's early history, at least four billion years ago. The brilliant light and a resolution as sharp as obsidian glass, the plumes of noxious gas make this a memorable geological site, a group portrait of perolating, belching volcanos.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello, Tan -
Achim put both of us into his new World Globetrotters group, so I thought I'd see what some of the other members he picked have been doing.
And you have been doing quite a lot! I picked this one out of several great possibilities, because it is so classic, and done so well, and a part of the world I haven't been to. Yet. You got the sunlight, the smoke and the clouds perfectly, absolutely crisp and clear, and great light control.
Really nice!
Best,

Hi Tan. I've been away from TE for a while (busy with work) but just catching up on a few critiques now over the holidays. You told me you didn't have much luck wih the weather when you were in Indonesia, but it looks like a perfect day here. Superb composition and technical quality as usual. This scene seems coming from another planet, or on the earth several million years ago.
I have seee pictures of this place other times, and they all have this fantastic light.
Great
Regards Stefano
ps. In this area there should be also Volcano Tambora, which erupted in 1815. It was one of the major eruptions in the last several thousand years or so, and it caused the so called "year without summer" in 1816, with temperature below zero in northern America all the way down to Virginia. I would be curious to see a picture of it now.
