Photographer’s Note
Makassar had always been a city name that sounded good to me. I rather call it like that than its newer name "Ujung Pandang", same feeling for Saigon, HCM-city doesn't convey any romantic mood, it lacks ao dais and cyclos into its name. Maybe, I've been reading too much.
Some cities are meant for walking (thinking about Kota Kinabalu, Georgetown in Penang...), others in Asia are really strolling unfriendly (I think Cebu city gets the worse mark, Jakarta not very far above...) though a bit ugly, Makassar is a delight walking at night, specially around the gold sellers streets, there's always someone at the corner of the street, rickshaw peddler or shop seller killing time to get photo opportunities.
This night reader is a gold seller taking some warm sea breeze out of his shop.

This is nice, Luko. Great little details in this shot. Even the car lights in the distance don't bother me. Just might not be too sharp, but wonderful nonetheless.
Very, very good shot.
Ah, the romantic city names. Yes, you're right, there are some beauties out there. I've always been fascinated by Shanghai and the history of the place, so I decided to live here. Another name that always sparks a nice reaction is Bangkok...loads more great ones out there.

Exposure f2...I don't even have an f2 lens! But I love this sort of black and white night shot, and this particular one really captures the feel of the city (well I assume it does, tho I never visited myself).

I did the search to see what else was in Makassar on TE. I posted a couple recently. I don't think mine have the depth of mood that your BW shots carry though, Luko...
