Photographer’s Note

This is a little harbour in Camplong, a town located in the central part of the south coast of Madura Island, Java, Indonesia.
The rig site where I am working is just a couple kilometres inland and two days ago I went for a walk along the beach for some relaxation and exercise. The place is simply beautiful and, as you can see, people here do not save on the paint and they use it skilfully to give soul to their fishing boats.

Hi Antonio,

Wow, an explosion of nicely saturated colours!! I like it! Those boats are wonderful. Here in Sumatra they don't really care that much about their boats, but when you go to Bali and Java you find explosion of colours in the harbours.
Good luck with the work. Let me know if you ever visit the North.

Hi Antonio,
What a bright picture with all these colourful boats. There must be a kind of competition going on between the boat owners who has the most colourful boat, they look in perfect shape. Minor details are the superb straight horizon and the very nice blue sky which makes this picture a real pleasure to look at.

The frame is quite busy so that the eye does not decide where to focus, but I agree the diversity of colors displayed here highly justified taking this shot !

Nice capture of the very colourful boats. I like the saturated colours a lot.

So you are working on Madura.....do you know where and when the Kerapan Sapi takes place this year. I read somewhere that it's from August to October.....but that's not very accurate. Must be nice to live on Madura.

What a colorful sight ... I like the colors in those boats. I suppose these boats are their livelihood and main transport ... so painting them nicely is like a statement. I suppose it would be like our car wherein we put in mag wheels and fancy design. Well captured and composed. I like the repeating patterns created by the boats. Excellent work! tfs

Bright colors and light confering a nice atmosphere in this quite joyful composition, Antonio. I just miss a little bit the human element to join the festive look.
I also think that the f/4.5 could have been pushed a little bit higher attempting a less soft image, IMHO.

Deve ser bem mais interessante trabalhar em terra do que no meio do mar, se bem que o mar tb deve ser uma experiência e tanto e deve ser propício a ter mais tempo para nós próprios.

Por um momento, quando olhei para a miniatura, os barcos fizeram-me lembrar gondolas, mas por sinal até são mais parecidas com os barcos de Aveiro, pois ao contrário das gondolas de Veneza, são bem coloridos. Está muito bonita, pelas cores (os barcos fazem um belo contraste com o mar e a vegetação) e pelo enquadramento.
