Photographer’s Note
Well, I went back to Bali...from June 12 to 17. This time, I had a better camera. We hired a tour guide (very good one...those interested may PM me for his contact) and he took us to places that are not very touristy. The more I see Bali, the more it becomes a mystery for me. But then, it is that very mystic that makes the place awe-inspiring.
On my last day, I went around Ubud...my favorite place in bali. I chanced upon an elementary school. I entered the gate, asked the teacher if I could take pictures and was surprised that I was given the permission quite easily. I wa salso lucky as thiat was there last day of school before heading for a month break. They had a party. This boy, apparently didn't get his food. Or maybe he finished his share ahead of the others.

Hi Manuel,
This is a very peculiar picture, I can see that the girl to left (I think a girl!) very pleasure have with a photographer in the school, maybe a total other program for the children, and this everything in BW!
With the focus on the boy in foreground, very well done!
Best regards,
John.

Interesting image. I like boy in the foreground with his expression and eyes. Quality and cought moment and sharpness are very good. Maybe is a bit to much contrast.

A great picture, Manny and full of pathos! Maybe he didn't bring any food. In rural Thailand they have to bring their own, as you know, and sometimes the very poor have none to bring. It makes a very powerful image.

Dear Manny, what did you do to get this colour tone? It's beautiful. The repetiton of tables and glasses are great, and the many little eyes poking out from that perfect bokeh all serve as exellent backdrops for the darling of the show, the boy with the big eyes, fantastic.

Hi Manuel,
I left Bali on June 11 ... and like you I love Ubud.
I like your picture. The boy in the forground has a great expression and I like the way he moves his eyes. Even the boy on the left side with the victory sign is cool.
I enjoyed reading your note.
I hope for more from Bali.

Deffinately a different perspective on Bali. Good to meet this guy and get to this intimate position with this school. Interesting to see you moving more to B&W.

Hello Manuel
So much contrast between the boy without food and the boy at the left side of your picture!
Nice story-telling shot with perfect DOF. I like your choice for B&W.

Manny,
I love what you do with your colour work - the shades of sepia/brown are so effective in this photo - making the boy's eyes really jump out. I know you give a lot of importance to the eyes and this one is no excepetion -
great shot,
Cheers.

Powerful shot, Manny, which showcases your recent technique wonderfully. Tremendous focus on the boy's eyes. I also like how the kids behind are like mere shadows...
Excellent work,

Hi Manny, it feels so good to land on your picture, here, in Bali, into the heart of this school. How did you get this unique and fabulous color???? Would you tell us? I wish you do. Your image is superbly composed, and the focus on the little boy's eyes makes it just haunting. The bokeh on the rest of the boys, tables, and lunch boxes is very efficient. Another magic image of yours, blissful. --amz
ps: would you give me the contact of your tour guide in Bali? Planning to go there in the next coming months. Thanks for sharing this!

A very arresting image. Light is beautifully handled and I love the chocolate tones of your b/w conversion. The boy looks like he is dreaming of the holiday ahead.

Hi Manuel!
Your gallery is really a gold mine, at least for me, haha. I like this one from your recent photos. It's quiet funny to see how these 2 kids in the near background where checking on you while this one, so close, was so absorbed by something else (was it really a food issue? haha)... And by the way, the shallow DOF is really for the best effect!
I think I prefer this version than the workshop. I'm planning to visit some schools soon where I'm working at the moment, I'll try to get inspired by this one! you might have some advices as well?
Anyways, a really really nice shot!
Congratulations,
Vincent
