[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The following information comes from the Lonely Planet Guide:
"Standing at 3726 meters Gunung Rinjani is the highest mountain on Lombok Island and the second highest in Indonesia. 600 meters below the rim, inside the crater is a 6 km wide lake called Danau Segara Anak (Child of the Sea). The lake has a crescent shape and in the middle of its curve is the new cone, Gunung Baru, which is also a couple of hundred years old. Rinjani is an active volcano and erupted as recently as 1994, changing the shape of the inner cone and sprinkling ash over most of Lombok."

Reaching the summit of a major volcano such as Rinjani or Semeru (Java) has become a custom for Indonesian students who graduate from college. Many of them actually take time after their studies to travel for several weeks or months around the country before settling down and finding a job. The most popular climbing day of the year, however, is on August 17th which is Independence Day in Indonesia. Exactly one year ago, we happened to be on Gunung Rinjani and I think there must have been at least 200 persons trying to reach the summit that day.

The climb is not technically difficult (it's actually just a 'walk' up) but it is quite strenuous due to the altitude and the cold. Even though you're in Indonesia, you're over 3000 meters high and that means it can get very cold especially considering the fact that you're climbing in the early hours of the morning. Strong winds can also be present so wind-stopper jackets, gloves and balaclava are not superfluous… just don't forget to take all that extra gear off when you get back to the beach after the climb ;-)

Une vue bien impressionante de ce cratère. L'image est bien
nette et bien détaillée. C'est marrant, il y a comme une
petite forêt au bord du lac! Très belle prise.

Effectivement, je souhaite une bonne fête nationale aussi à tous les indonésiens. Je ne compte pas passer par Lombok mais en 3 semaines, il est difficile de tout faire! En tout cas, j'aime bien la composition ainsi que ce cratère en avant plan. Bravo!

grimper dans un tel cadre doit être quelque chose !
Le volcan au premier plan semble être sorti de mon vieux livre de géographie tant sa definition colle à celle du cratere type.

Hello Brigitte.
Quel endroit....s'est superbe.
Incroyable cette vu, on a l'impression que derrière cette chaine de montagne.....il n'y a plus rien...la fin du monde ;)
Très jolie teintes et lumière ... et bon cadrage.
Pas mal d'avoir mis ce volcan dans le bas , histoire qu'il ne s'accapare pas toute la photo.
Alors Happy Independence Day pour les indonésiens :)

Bonjour Brigitte,
Une promenade pas trop difficile (je suis admiratif !) pas moins de 3.000 mètres tout de même. Le souffle doit être court quand on peut admirer un paysage qui semble tout droit sorti de notre imagination, sans la présence de ce lac nous pourrions penser à un espace lunaire. Une photographie de qualité pour le plus grand plaisir des yeux.

Vraiment des points de vue spectaculaires dans cette region, comme on peut aussi le voir sur la photo de Cessy. J'aime bien ici l'ombre qui entoure la structure du cratere et le bon contraste qui decoupe le lac, bien aussi d'avoir pense au stitching, t'aurais meme pu en rajouter une louche vers la droite. Tu voyages leger dans les sommets ;-)
C'est vraiment un superbe endroit, bon anniversaire a l'Indonesie !
