Photographer’s Note
Ten cm of bat sh*t on the ground, bat droppings on my head and camera, and a pretty bat smell. Bat conditions for getting this photo of the bat cave, and very bat light, almost completely dark
Thanks for your critiques.
Regards, Huub

Hi Huub
Good use of repetition in the compo & full marks for the effort & discomfort you went to in order to get this shot. Excellent sharpness & well managed use of flash. Good work!

oh, that's a scary picture with all the eyes lightened by the flash, staring at you like they want to jump on you... it's giving me chills :(

Dag Huub,

Oh wow this is such a surreal image. I had to stare at it for a while to figure out my sense of bearings. What am I looking at? Where am I? What's cool is that all the answers are in the image. They just require a little mind-bending (for me at least). Great use of flash in this dark cave. You come away with something that evokes collage art, pagan rituals, fever dreams, and campfire stories. And the wings of the bats aloft are velvety sleek. Well done and bonus points for your fearlessness.

Awesome shot Huub!
Living here in Singapore I've seen my fair share of bats, but you've outdone anything I've captured with this shot here. The flash you were using must have been a really good one, my flash on my Canon 300D sure wouldn't be able to do this.
The detail, and shear numbers of them in such a small are is great. I love all the eyes looking at you.
Cheers!

WOW - fantastic shot
The note made me laugh - and did the Haze filter help to get a shot through the bat droppings?

For all the bat conditions you were in, the picture is not so bat.
