Barito Delta river life:
Had a good time wandering away in the delta sneaking for photo opportunity on not so inspiring day, a mixture of good and not so good weather but that did not stop me enjoying things around the strange looking landscape. Overlooking the flooded wetland, this was the place I took a short break in a small hut on a wooden jetty located amongst the stilt houses when dismal grey were the only colours present except for patches of green water plants floating here and there.
It was so still, quiet, almost deserted and was fairly lifeless except probably for the sound of the occasional gentle water movements.
I was determined to make the best out of nothing on this very drab day, and guessed I was lucky perhaps when there was a brief light break and the unexpected canoe came into picture. This was the quick shot I managed to come away.
I always strongly believe that weather does not necessarily have to be glorious to make an interesting picture.....

Another spectacular scene from that water world. The contrasts are perfect and the atmosphere quite peaceful.
Enjoy a nice evening.

You are 100% correct! For me, the canoe paddling through the background is not nearly as important as the one in the foreground. The light-colored boards in it balance the dark structure on the right of the frame. The dark structure itself is silhouetted nicely by the brighter water. In all, a very interesting scene, very well presented.

une superbe lumière et des tons de gris comme le ciel superbes
un bon premier plan avec cette barque et ces baraques en bois et l'herbe par ci par là...
une belle composition où tout parait calme

lovely low light scene. It has a wonderful evening atmosphere. Great composition with the boat and wooden pier disappearing in the water. Beautiful view opening further in the distance.

despite the grey color dominating the picture it actually manages to not be sad or gloomy. The gold tones on the boat and the red sihouette of the fishermann add some life and contrast. Eye pleasing composition, perfect sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

The water dominates your picture, I like this river scape, peaceful atmosphere and dim light make an interesting mood

A good demonstration of your conviction about photography in so called dull weather.
A person having good eye, artistic mind and control over his tools, can indeed extract beauty in any condition or location.
Stillness has so nicely been recorded here by the monotonous tone, the water, the abandoned look of the place - that the viewer ‘believes’ that this was THE condition that was required for this image.
And you have inserted a bit of life by including the canoe... subtle touch of a master.
Great job sir. Thanks for sharing,

shades of gray can look no less beautiful than perfect blue. It's just another mood and with its own charm. You've got the eye for it, excellent composition with the bright red spot as a challenge:)
Thanks and best wishes!

I like very much how you managed to tell a little story with this quiet picture. You have composed a picture of this setting that is simple and neat and totally evocative of the stillness and eerie calmness of this place. And then a canoe with a brightly dressed person in it crosses the frame bringing in new reference that affects everything. You've handled the peculiar lighting in a remarkable way and the range of greys you've achieved is endless. The graduation from silvery grey to leather grey hues is smooth and marvellous. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

Beautiful shot on what looks like a rather gloomy day. I particularly like the reflected light coming in from the right, perhaps giving hope for the coming day. The fisherman in the boat lends just about the only spot of bright color. Nicely done, thanks.

You're capturing well this delta by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the flooded wetland with some hats and patches of green water plants. It's also impressive in pile dwelling at both side and the greenery in the distance. And, The boat anchored at easy pier draws out a good impact in this image.

J'aime l'instant paisible, la douceur du moment, la présence du canoë qui arrive au bon moment, le POV et toute la composition qui me plait beaucoup

An evocative title, and image to match. This is such a strange landscape, I am not used to seeing flooded places like this. I know you mention the day was grey, bu the sky was good to you in this moment, creating a very interesting distant backdrop, while the timing of the canoe could not have better, putting a little blast of life and colors into the shot.
Thanks as always

Ciao e buona serata

life on the water looks so magnificent on your photo.I imagine it must be in reality quite difficult, but your composition conveys only positive feelings and sides of it.Tranquility and calmness are the feelings coming to my mind while admiring this scene.Indeed, the grey tones look marvelous(especially illuminated water)and I like also the way they contrast to vivid greenery.Superb!
mirosu (12676) 2013-10-23 23:00
For the most part I like the composition and placement of elements, the boat in the front, the small wooden house and the green water plants, within the frame. The landscape orientation of this works well considering the horizontal nature of the subjects. There is a good counterbalance of light and colors here as well. Brilliant photo. Well done.
danos (83541) 2013-10-24 4:10
nice the view of the place with the waters to have covered everything.I like the excellent POV as with the wooden houses to are in the waters with the man in red,in the boat to be the eye catching of the scene.

I for myself find bad weather often moore inspiring than a boringly bright and blue sky. One can capture marvelous moody pictures under those conditions.
You certainly achieved one of these here. I really like the quality of the light in this tranquil and peaceful scene.
have a great day
mjw364 (7004) 2013-10-25 1:11
I know the feeling of these days when the light is poor and there is nothing much to inspire you. Yet still we seek and work hard to find an opportunity. you managed it here in poor lighting conditions and so we come away thinking the effort was worth it. Perseverance and patience - two qualities of the photographer!
shevchenko (19051) 2013-10-25 1:28
Good pov and good frame to show an unique village view, nice wooden house and boats, good perspective too, impressive dim view in a cloudy day, interesting composition, thanks for sharing.

Like the capture from the creative title to the canoe with the touch of orange to break the grey of the dreamy atmosphere
Well composed capture, interesting houses built on pillars on the water
Wish you a great week
Thanks for helping me with your comments

It looks like those clouds brought a little rain and the river is swollen. That red outfit among the grey colors is a welcome variety.
ikeharel (52993) 2014-08-20 9:21
really a number of greyu diff. shades in one shot, Abmdsudi, superbly collected.
The green weed on water surface and the one lady in red, took the immediate attention when opened.
Photojob well done, smooth surface yet a clear view inspite the cloudy day.
