Photographer’s Note
This is the Toasebio Buddhist Temple (Vihara Dharma Jaya as Indonesians call it). It is located in the congested alleys of Jakarta Kota (the old city). People in the old city is predominantly of Chinese origin. It is rooted to the history, when the Dutch Colonial Government relocate the wealthy Chinese merchants to places outside the old Batavia city walls, for fear of corrupting their firm grasp of the city. It has a double impact though. While the chinese is kept out from the power, they flourish in trade, and the place become a busy network of canals, ports, and warehouses
