Photographer’s Note

Another view of the scenic drive up from the crater of Lake Maninjau, an extinct volcanic caldera in West Sumatra. If anyone wants to try a workshop to remove the fg guard rails, feel free.

Hi Chris,

This one is scenic, the slight effect due to moving bus is actually nice here. I like the bright landscape contrasting to the blue sky. TFS.

Hi Chris,
A good one, the foreground field is strongly graphical and displays two contrasting colors, the rising tree is well place and the view to the lake is nice. Not to sure about the 2 big stones, but finally they also work well to lead the eye, however I would clone the pole and wires in the middle.

Hi Chris,
These fields allways give wonderful shots, with nice graphic results. Great view over them, with the marvellous landscape in the background. I love that lonely palmtree and the guard rails doesn't bother me much. It can be disturbing but also makes this image original and diferent from a regular one. Also adds some nice dephness.

This is a beauty, Chris. Looks as if someone threw a huge embroidered cloth over the land - very graphic. The colours are beautiful too, with the cool whites and blues contrasting with the warmer earthier tones. Love the palm tree which links it all together.

Wonderful panorama! I like the placement of the two stones on each side, with the scene unfolding in the middle. That tree is critical to the look of the photo too, without it everything would look a lot flatter. Well done Chris!

Hi Chris, A beautiful view over the rice paddies on the top of the hill. I agree with you that some artificial subjects are on the way. In addition to the guard rails, if we could, we should remove the power lien and power pole as well.

Good quality considering you took it from a moving bus, Chris. Vivid colors and a nice layered showing of the landscape with the fields, body of water and mountains. I was about to suggest removing the two stones in the foreground but then I noticed that Papagolf already did the work :)

Extraordinary effect from the contrasting landscapes shon here, te backdrop seems like a completely different place, enhanced by the different light on it. Not sure baout the posts in the foreground.

Hi Chris. I would have done a w/s as you requested but I was too slow! The clone tool in Photoshop can be a lifesaver. We can sense how warm this place must be. The tropical colors appear very realistic. tfs Chris.

nice to see the pattern of the fields; the lower ones reflecting the sky and the palm tree. Clouds rising from the valley and hiding partially the mountains; all adding up to a fine composition, well done.

Hi Chris,
A superb composition, with great wisps of cloud and craggy mountains int he distance. The palm tree provides balance and enhances, and the sloping fields are alluring. The guard rails distract slightly, but are only a very minor irritant. Very well captured, Chris. I like this shot very much.

This is a beautiful landscape. The contrast of the near foreground paddies with the faraway mountains creates a very nice sense of depth. Light, colours and exposure are one of the best in the photos I’ve seen from you. The removal of the guardrails is a very good idea and brings a lot of value to the photo.
