Photographer’s Note
North Sulawesi is a biodiversity hotspot and
harbors some of the world's most spectacular nature areas. Northern Sulawesi is also home to a series of gold deposits and as I mentioned yesterday the tranquility of the area may soon end.
A British-Australian mining company is lobbying the goverment to begin gold mining exploration in the area. Plans to establish gold mining operations here have met with widespread resistance both from local
inhabitants and the Provincial government, who fear that the mines would disrupt the ecology and the economy of the region, which is based on
fishing, agriculture and tourism.
The present provincial governor believes that short-term extractive industries like gold mining do not fit into the long-term sustainable development plans of this province and stated, „I prefer to be a green governor rather than allowing the destruction of our
environment.“
But the battle is not yet won.

Another great view with fantastic colors and light.
Beaches in Indonesia are very similar to these in Thailand. Great recolection for me.
Thanks, A.

Wonderful composition, with well-balanced colors and an overall sense of beauty and peace. Great work, and thanks for the information about the gold industry threatening to destroy this jewel.

Hi Elaine!
A few days ago I had a look at you gallery, expecting the first images from your recent travel.I was too early....
This one reminds me to Ngapali beach. The color of the water is wonderful and I like these clouds on top of the mountans.
Nice to have some shade at such a wonderful beach. At turkish beaches there is no shade, except under rented parasols.

Elaine,
Beautiful landscape for sure, so peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Great composition, I love how the cloud seem to cover the mountain like a blanket. Great Shot, good clarity, beautiful and natural colors of the tropical islands. Strong light but details nicely maintain and not over expose, especially with the white sands. So good to have you back.

Hello Elaine,
This looks pretty much like the tropical paradise most people seem to be looking for but rarely find. Either there are too many tourists or too many sand flies. But I got the impression that this beach was just right. Truly a classic composition with white sand, some shade and a few beautiful clouds on the blue sky.

Gert

Hallo Elaine,
Fijne dag, Henk

Dear Elaine
This is a not a post which I would readily associate with you. Nice diagonal of the shoreline with a strong contrast between the sand & the lovely blue of the sea. Interesting to see how the clouds form neat cap of the hills in the BG. Also like how the sunlight makes the fringes of the leaves in the top FG glow. Good work!
Best Regards
Angshu
