Many Torajan houses (tongkonan) boast carved designs derived from plant and animal motifs. With the buffalo being so imnportant in Torajan culture it is not surprising that often carvings represent buffaloes. The main wall poles, on the front of the tongkonan, are always decorated with stylised buffalo heads. On the top of the façade, in the gable triangle, there are images of beetle nut and sunbursts, since some take this part of the tongkonan to represent the Heavens.

Beautiful shot, showing the girls in a relaxing mood enjoying themselves with thier dog, the background wall with pattern and color shows the essence of their culture and art. Everything is just fine, good colors, good sharpness and clarity, composition is also fine. Thanks

Nice portraits of the girls, looking very relaxed with their dog. The mavellously designed wall makes a very ineresting background. Good sharpness and exposure.

A wonderfully detailed shot with all those intricate carved patterns, and a beautiful sharp tripple portrait. I like the way the big girl holds onto the dog and in turn the little girl holds onto her friend/sibling all joining them together in closeness.

Your notes Elaine, are just what they should be, helping us know about a culture not very known to me at least. I know of the Torajan houses, but for the first time I see the motifs on the wall, which beautiful designs. Lovely portrait of the two sweet girls & their pet dog, holding onto each other in a close bonding. Beautiful Elaine!
