My last post showed the pig market in Rantepao, here we see the live pig being transported home. What you miss here are the deafening squeals of the pig not to mention how much the pig was struggling. just look at the expression of the first man and the taut muscles in his legs and you can imagine.
To market, to market to buy a fat pig
Home again, home again jigety jig
To market to market to buy a fat hog
Home again, home again joggety jog
Old Nursery rhyme

superb work here, a well taken daily life scene in a pure reporter style, it could be published on National Geographic, excellent technique and nice "square" crop.
have a nice weekend,

Man, that's one fat pig - you've got to feel sorry for the poor creature.
What really makes this shot for me is the expression on the face of the chap in front. Priceless!
I'd prefer it shot with a wider aperture to throw the busy background slightly out of focus.
Excellent shot though Elaine.

This is a fabulous photo, a unique demonstration of strength and concentration through well captured expressions.
Impeccable framing, composition and subject. This guy is an indonesian cousin of Popeye, but instead of having enormous forearms, this asian version have impressive thighs. Definitely not its first pig transport.
Highly interesting topic.

These eveyday street scenes are the ebst dopcument of a place and the life it offers. I like the tones and hues of this shot which has been well composed

A superb documentary shot. Real life here. The expressions of both men are a wonderful capture. You are right, the leg muscles from the front man are surely impressive. I also find the general color combination very appealing. TFS.

An excellent documentary, showing this small drama in everyday life!
Frankly I'm happy I'm not pig in SE Asia as I have seen them transported in the most "inhumane" ways tied to motorbikes and mopeds...
I just wonder why they don't try with a carrot to move the beast from A to B..!

Haha...a shot to bring a smile. A great scene, well spotted and perfectly captured. The crop is perfect. In his struggle the guy in the front almost looks surreal.

What a great Image.Views like this are the main reason why I travel to destinations where the daylife is totally different to here.
The image has an excellent quality like the composition. At their faces we can read how hard the work is.A fantastic one!!!!

This is a great everydaylife shot.
I love their serious expressions and the whole, natural cadrage.
With greetings, Agnieszka

This is really a superb photo. The composition is excellent, it is sharp and perfectly exposed. But these are only the technical details. The strength is the capture of this moment, the facial expressions, the muscles straining.
The pig is so well fed. Th humans not so much.
Cheers to you,

Hallo Elaine. Ein starkes und sehenswertes Photo. Hervorragend. Viele Grüße, Wolfgang.

A horrible and beautiful picture, amusing and shocking. I can't decide which reactions are the strongest. The expressions of the nearest guy are incredible. There's an amazing muddy character to the whole place. I'll add this picture to my favourites.

what a great moment you have caught here with superb natural expressions on mens' faces and their postures are amusing.
thanks for sharing

The expression on the face of the man is 'priceless'. An amazing street shot. We can all but feel & hear the struggle going on here. Brilliant documentary style work! I wonder why you did not use a shallower DOF..maybe you were in a hurry to capture the moment!

Gotta say Elaine, the first thing I did when I saw this picture was laugh. That guy in front is like a cartoon character witht that expression.
Man, thats a fat pig.
He's got some muscle in those legs.
Love the rolled up shorts too.
Nice shirt on the guy in the background.
Are they going anywhere or just standing there?
Cluttered background but who cares.
It's still alive?
Poor guy - the pig that is.
Great daily life, street type, culture, people, interesting, classic, funny, what the hell is goin' on here, not gonna win any awards but probably should, take a second, third and fourth look type of photo.
Perfect note and title also - never heard that nursery rhyme but I like it. Ha. One of the better photos I've seen lately.

Wow that monster must weigh a lot! I don't know who is suffering more, the porters or the pig. Your images are always so carefully frames, Elaine, very far from the typical 'snap snot' . You have a great photographer's eye. Here you have contained the action so well, and waited for the right moment for a cultural record and human story.I love the expression on the porter's face and the sense of action frozen. Since they are carrying a pig, I assume that they are not Muslims, but belong to on of the ethnic minorities. Regards Kevin

Very great captured of daily life..you catch their expression very well.
Actually, it will be more hard to walk on the muddy street like that.
