Photographer's Note

This portrait was taken in Bena village located on the slope of Ineri volcano in central Flores island. An ethnic Ngada, she is a sweet old lady and pretty worn out but it does feel good getting in touch with these people, she is just like the rest of us. This is not a pretty face by any means but she has provided me with main elements that I love best in portraiture, her expressions and the wrinkles of her facial landscape that we see everyday. Her features shine from the frontal natural soft morning light matching the dark background.

I just simply couldn't let the photographic opportunity pass me by....

"sweet old lady" were the first words that came to my mind upon viewing this portrait. I like very much the way you have focused on her face and the dark backdrop that makes the excellent sharpness and depth provided by your settings more effective and eloquent. I love how straighforward, proud, sweet and tranquil she is in front of the lens. She looks familiar, I've seen "facial landscapes", hairstyles and temperaments like hers on many "sweet old ladies" in Greece. A beautiful picture, congratulations and thank you!

non posso che complimentarmi con te per questo eccellente ritratto, perfetto sia dal punto di vista tecnico, che emozionante dal lato umano.
Tecnicamente non posso che elogiare la perfezione della ripresa caratterizzata da una nitidezza eccellente che pone in risalto ogni più piccolo dettaglio, ma l'espressione che hai saputo cogliere sul viso di questa donna merita un elogio per la tua indiscutibile bravura nel ritratti.

Maybe not a pretty face by conventional definitions, but there is no doubt beauty in these eyes and the many wrinkles of her skin. She has experienced a lot and most likely lived a hard but honest life and your portrait shows her a lot of respect. The light and sharpness are impressive and I love the dark background. Nothing distracts us from watching the old woman's face.

A picture tells a thousand words, and this face does just that. You can see in the lines and ceases, and the deep loo in her eyes that this woman has lived a life, the ups and downs, trials and tribulations are all carved and engrained for us to see. I can understand why you could not pass this opportunity, its a beautiful portrait and presented perfectly.

I can't take my eyes off of her, as if she is some sort of super super model :)

I wonder why we have such an aversion to wrinkled faces doing all we can to remain without blemish? No wonder you couldn;t let this past. What a classic photo of such an amazing person. Looks at those eyes and the wrinkles on her face. Ahhh the stories she could tell! Salam Bro.
All those wrinkles must have come from may years of smile. Glazing eyes and grey hair with unique facial expression add all the characters for a fine portrait. The morning light was well capitalized in this superb portrait. Top drawer work and well done my friend.
