Photographer's Note

This was taken at Labuanbajo just as the sun was dipping beneath the horizon to my right.

Labuanbajo fishing village on the western tip of Flores Island, is the normal entry point for those arriving by ferry from Bali, Lombok or Sumbawa Islands. Its main attractions are a string of offshore islands boasting pristine white sandy beaches and safe swimming in turquoise blue waters or one can arrange a boat tour of nearby Komodo and Rinca Islands, the extremely popular, homes of the enormous dinosaur-like Komodo Dragon lizards. From elevated viewpoint, the sheltered harbour gives the impression that we are standing on the large lagoon, heavily littered with outrigger fishing boats of all sizes.

A very pleasant blue hour picture with this iunteresting boat along the diagonal, pointing directly to the peaked island on the other side. There is indeed a very pleasant light over the whole view here.

The low sun creates nice warm tones on the constructions at the waterfront. It's also nice to see the colour of the water ranging from dark blue to yellow and to look at that strong red brown - blue contrast.

this photo reminds me very much of my trip to Thailand were this kind of boats I could admire very often. I must admit they are very photogenic and you managed to get the best of this red "model". The light is another great feature of this image - I love the way sun makes the water on the horizon golden streaked.

Beautifully composed work, Abmdsudi. The light is wonderful, glowing at right, and it casts just enough on the old boat to give it a warm feeling. The rather wide angle here allows the boat itself to become a perfect FG object, leading the eye into the shot and into the various hues that meet at center. Thanks!

Hi Abmdsudi,

You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the sea/sky dyed to orange color, calm sea and anchored colorful fishsing boats. It is effective to have caught the front boat aslant. And, it draws out an additional good atmosphere in this image for the peninsula/small island in the distance.

I love the backlighting effect here, thus allowing the light to gradually diminish at the foreground, where the boat is. The play of light and shadow also allows one to feel the gentle waves. A very lovely composition.

tranquility pure for me!The scene would be beautiful at any time of the day or regardless the weather,but in combination with so lovely setting sun it looks really marvelous.Love these delightful and well-saturated colors.I´m also amazed how excellently you were able to depict details of the foreground and the boat.It´s well illuminated and all details can be clearly visible.At such low light conditions you had here when you expose corectly the FG the background will stay dar or vice versa,but you´ve managed to depict the whole scene in good quality and light.

A fine example of efficient use of the wide lens. You use of low light to optimal effect is also excellent. Like how the distorted view of the boat leads our eyes from the corner of the image, right upto the centre where the golden sky is reflected in the water. The conical hill island in the BG is a strong focal point as well. Lovely work indeed!
