Photographer's Note

Here is another photograph of the sunrise, seen from the Batur volcano. The vulcanologists qualify the gunung Batur of "double caldeira", which means two craters one in the other. The external crater is an oval of 14 km length, in which is the lake of the this photo. This caldeira was formed about30 000 years ago ,when the pressure exerted by the magma exploded the top of the mountain. The internal crater, (on which we were )is a volcanic peak of traditional form which reaches 1717 m . The activity of the 10 last years gave birth to several small cones named Batur I, II, III, and IV. More than 20 minor eruptions were recorded between 1824 and 1994., some important eruptions took place into 1917,1924 and 1963.Some jolts and an geological activity is regularly recorded.
In WS I join a general sight on the volcano.
