Photographer’s Note

Photo is taken in the serene botanical gardens of Pura (temple) Ulun Danu (built beside Lake Bratan which fills the ancient crater of long-inactive volcano Gunung Catur).

These 2 kids dressed in traditional balinese customes are probably here to honor the balinese protective deity, Dewi Sri, goddess of rice and prosperity. These sacred compounds for gods and men can lie eerily deserted throughout much of the year they, but on the date of their anniversary festivals, they come to life in a burst of activity, as the people adorns the temple with beautiful ornaments and arrives bearing elaborate gifts, dressed in their finest apparels.
