This human powered transportation are widely used in mayor cities around the world and known as cyclo in Vietnam and Cambodia, cycle rickshaw in Bangladesh and India, Tricycle rickshaw in Malaysia and Singapore, Saika (side car) in Myanmar. In Indonesia we call it becak (from Chinesse-Hokian dialect, be-chia which means horse-drawn carriages), you can find this kind of tranportation on almost every city in Indonesia except Jakarta when they are no longer permitted on mayor roads since 2001, but in other city around Indonesia they are still used for daily life transportation and of course for having some money / food for the driver. (b&w version on ws)

Picture was taken in the morning at Malioboro street Yogyakarta city, a city with outstanding historical and cultural heritage and one of the cheapest city in Indonesia.

have a nice day

Another place in Indonesia were they exist by the thousands is in Madura Island. I used it several times for short distance travel. In Madura I also used the horse carriages, which is very, very common.
For the photo, I like it a lot for its colours and POV. One curious thing is to see the small bike chain locked to the big wheel of the becak.

Olá Daniel

As cores desta foto chamam a atenção e os vários detalhes neste cenário também...e o rapaz parece bem concentrado em meio a tudo isso. Bom trabalho.

Hi Daniel. Shame they were banned but I guess you have to make way for progress. Nice colourful photo. Good detail also. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Daniel
That's fast for you...another post in two days! yes these are there in my country as well, but different in design. The B&W version is better for this type of picture in my opinion, but requires a bit more contrast (tried a WS). What's the small cycle doing there, chained to the becak's wheel?
Regards
Angshu

Hi Daniel,
Very interesting daily life shot, quite eye catching for the colours and mechanical shapes of all those cycles.

Hi Daniel,

Nice daily life picture. Impressive all that bikes around. Good framing and colors as well. Good that you're trying different kind of shots and subjects.

Hello Daniel,

An interesting street scenery with many details to explore!
I'm trying to figure out how this works, seems like the small bike is locked to the bike with the guy a bike that has been modified in ways I don't understand, hehehe...
I have an image of the Filipino version of this tricycle in my gallery!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Daniel,
It's amazing the loads carried by those riders. The notes help in sorting out the picture.
