Photographer's Note

These are the remains of the Sultan’s Water Palace in Yogya (pronounced, and sometimes spelled, “Jogja”). Back in the day this was where he housed his harem. There was a secret tunnel connecting it to the main palace (the “Kraton”) so that he could come and go undetected. When it pleased him he would come to watch his girls in the court filled with pools and fountains, and if he felt lonely he would summon one.

These days it is a wonderful ruin of crumbled stone. The area has been reclaimed by the populace, as simple homes have been built upon the grounds. Local children are almost always playing here, giving new life to an old building.

Post-pro: converted to b/w, contrast increased with levels, a slight blur was added to a second layer and that layer’s opacity reduced to 50%.

====================

This is a reposting of my 1st TE upload. The main change is to resize the photo, which was quite small because I couldn’t figure out how to post a large pic under 200 kb at the time. Other than that I cropped off a bit of the left to make the subject more centred, the slight blur. Basically, I started this one from scratch based on the colour original.

This is one of three pics taken on the same day in the same area. The other two are:
