Photographer's Note

Wayang is the Javanese term for the art of shadow puppets. These performances retell ancient myths and legends (often derived from Hindu epics) and are traditionally accompanied by a gamelan orchestra.

The term 'wayang' is the Javanese word for shadow. In modern daily Javanese and Indonesian vocabulary, it often refers to the puppet itself or the puppet theatre performance.
