Photographer’s Note
Hello All, Hope you're all well
The last photo I uploaded before going for my holidays was taken from the car window...and the first photo which I am posting after the holidays, is also taken from a window...this time from an aircraft
As our flight approached Bali's Denpasar Airport, the pilot announced that we can see a dormant volcano from the left window...I peered down from the window & saw this marvellous view! The turquoise green lake in the caldera of this dormant volcano, with another volcano to the immediate right....Fluffy clouds floating around & the landmass and the coast visible in the horizon. Truly a sight I've never seen before.
True it's not a great photo technically with the reflections of the window glass (moreso because the view was below the flight level), the sun's flares, the aircraft wings all visible...but tell me how often do we get a chance to see such a wonder of natural beauty? So here I am..posting the shot for you to see and hopefully enjoy...
Postscript : This is the Kawah Ijen Crater lake, located in the IJen Plateau which lies in the centre of the ijen - Merapi - Maelang Reserve, which extends over much of the mountainous region to the west of Banyuwangi, bordering or, the Baluran National Park. A luminous blue/green crater lake lies at the far eastern end of the plateau and is without doubt one of the most impressive of East Java's natural wonders.
Kawah IJen is 2,300 metres above sea-level. The enormous lake, which is 200 metres deep, contains approximately 36,000,000 cubic metres of steaming, acid water. A walk around the crater takes a full day.
This information is thanks to "annna" who has been so kind to correct my earlier details.

Hi Angshu,
You're so lucky to see such view from an aircraft! Really cool volcanoe. Hope you've had a nice trip ;)
And I like the inclusion of the 'natural' framing of the wing and window which isnt too distracting.
Look foward to seeing more shots from that place.
Have a nice day,
Cheuk Hin

Lucky shot since you were seated on the right place to have a view over this volcano. Nice turquoise color of the crater lake.
All the best,

Hi Angshu,
Interesting capture in spite of the tech problems you experienced!
You frame the two volcanos nicely, also by using parts of the aircraft...
The clouds always present near volcanos are an extra bonus... Well done!

Hi Angshu,
Welcome back. Wonderful view from the top. I don't think you get this from anywhere else but an aircraft. So quality shouldn't be an issue here. As Partha said, you have managed the conditions well.
Looking forward to your posts from Bali.
Best Wishes

Hi Angshu
Hope you had a great holiday. I love the view from here. What is particularly interesting is the curvature of the window, it has given the shot a nice distorted feel. The drifting clouds work well here too.
Nice work. Look forward to seeing more.

Hello Angshu,
Nice to see you back and with a wonderful image from above. I allways try to go at the window, when flying, to get the chance of seeing marvellous views of the world from above, like this one. The lake inside that volcano cone it's simply great! It almost seems like a view of the sky as well, making this a surreal image. The clouds coming out of there make it seem like a volcano in action...I like your framing with the window and wing of the plain. Really nice. I'm glad that you posted this one!
Friendly regards,
Ricardo

Hello Angshuman da,
Hope you had a great time in Bali and hope you are well. This is really nice capture of the dormant volcano. It is true that qualitywise may be not a great one, but again you gave the reason in your note! Inspite of the sun's flare and the reflections from the aircraft window, you have managed the shot nicely with lovely colours.
Best regards

Hi Angshuman,
Great aerial shot. The fire beast is sleeping and you have captured all its beauty with the turquoise lake inside. The photo is very well framed by the window plane. It increases the realism of the scene.
Well done

Hi Angshu,
What a very nice picture out of an plane, almost a satellite picture but with very more sharpness, I like the inclusion of the framing of the wing, also we can see the volcano crater, I like indeed these picture!

HEllo Angshuman!
How was on the plane?
It is good choice to show us this not perfect image. This turquoise hole in the Earth looks like a diamond :). Beautiful view and composition with the clouds under you ;).

Hi angshuman
Congratulations .You have captured an excellent photo. You could have cropped wing without loosing important part.reflections of internal lights make it difficult to get good shots from aircraft.I also choose to sit next to window but so far I have been able to get satisfying shot.TFS

Hi Angshu,
I agree with Pablo's comments, "You frame the two volcanos nicely, also by using parts of the aircraft..." I particularly like the curved reflection of the window as an enhancing frame. Having tried to take shots from a plane window, I find this work and extraordinary feat.

Hi Angshu,
the curves of the window do cooperate with those of the vulcano.
Good clear shot,

Hi Angshu,
This is one of those photos where any technical consideration is meaningless, since what stands out is what the image shows.
This is amazing!

Hi Angshu - this overview is indicative of how magnificent the scenery below must be, even having the wing and the window does not detract from the beauty.

spectacular view of that dormant volcano from the aircraft window. The water in the caldera has amazing turquoise colour...
Very interesting and infrequent capture!

Hello Angshu, "Mr. B"
If the scene is truly worthwhile, you have to take the photo (and share). This is a very interesting natural site, and I am happy to read about Kawah Putih Crater Laek. On the negative side, it is from a considerable altitude, the air is clear, but not pristine; there are a number of smaller craters on the side, which could also be accentuated. But, as passengers, we don't always have the best choice of seats, and must depend on the whims of the pilot to take us on a path that he my want to share with us -- although he has seen them dozens of times before.
Last week we flew to Florida, and as we left Washington, I changed from one side of the plane to another, drawing the flight attendant's ire, and so too my wife's. I took some unbelievable shots of Washington, DC from the air. Alas, I somehow erased the file!!!
Last November, flying out of Istanbul, I took my Nikon D-70 with me with a 70-210 lens, ready to shoot the amazing city from the air. Alas, it was overcast, the pilot took an unfortunate path, and I saw nothing. But on the same flight, two hours later, I still had the camera with me, and we came over the Austrian Alps, I could not believe the site. I clicked away, and one of the photos can be see here, Austrian Alps
Often we make our own luck, but not when we have to depend on the vagaries and whims of pilots, and those of the gods of the weather.
Warm regards, and thank you for sharing this natural wonder with us,
Bulent, "A"
