Surabaya, second largest city after Jakarta is a former trading centre of the Dutch East Indies, is the capital of East Java Province. For centuries it has been one of Java's most important trading ports now Indonesia's industrial capital. The most interesting part of the city is old Surabaya (Dutch Soerabaja), a vibrant old quarters. Walk through the narrow streets packed with colorful old houses, shops, rundown warehouses amids jostling becaks-trishaws. A good place to view some of the historical landmarks, mixture of old architectural buildings featuring Dutch, Arabic and Chinese influence.
Street life has always been one of photographers' favourite subjects, and to capture people going about their daily lives and activities in cities and towns is a great challange and often these pictures extremely captivating. I think it is the mix of the urban scene with people interacting with their environments and each other that provide a colourful visual aspect to our often grey surroundings. They colour the streetscapes because they are part of the scene and so can influence our choice of composition and viewpoint.
This image was taken from a quiet street conner of Ampel in old Surabaya.

Salam Abmdsudi.Enigmatic shot when seen as a thumbnail. Now I know it's of a tired man getting some shuteye and re-energizing his muscles. The artwork is somewhat puzzling- maybe in real life she is his muse.An anusual shot from you, seeing that there is no sky. Regards. Klaudio.

Good parallel shot with the opposite 2 blue jeans and black socks/shoes.

Really well noticed, this one! Such a good composition, with the blue pants facing each way, making a good humorous subject and reflecting also on daily life for the trishaw drivers of Surabaya. I love those socks pulled over his jeans. I visited Surabaya many years ago, in the late 1970s and found it was my favourite city in Indonesia, with some elegance and charm remaining from the old colonial days.

This is a funny capture and a very common kind of sight in any Asian city where people spend so much of the time in the streets, trying to make a living. The coincidence of two pairs of bent legs in blue jeans and black socks was cleverly observed.

The feet hanging out really makes the shot here Admdsudi. Excellent shot!

Black socks make it! Excellent observation, Abmdsudi, and a fine streetshot. Playful and colourful work.
With a smile.

Nice street life observation with a touch of humour. I find the jeans put inside the socks amusing, but it's a detail that speaks: he is the pedicab driver.

I love this! The elements in this photo are random, but at the same time they match so perfectly. It was lucky that someone with blue jeans and black socks sat next to this small painting. :-) Your framing and presentation are great, too. I like the blur in the background and the strong colors.

an impressive shot of actual scene on the street,
it is both humorous and sorrowful indeed,
it reminds me of the some scenes in C. Chaplin's movie,
anyway colors and composition are picturesque and photogenic,
thank you for your excellent shot,

You were able to capture a very nice scene of life. I like the symmetry between the blue jeans and he painting. You chose a perfect framing to reinforce this scene and the bokeh adds a nice relief. Well done

J'aime beaucoup cette photo de rue prise sur le vif. Les deux jambes qui dépassent du véhicules font un excellent contraste avec la peinture naïve.

Hi Abmdsudi !!
I can just see this chap arriving home and telling his wife that..... he had a hard day at the office !!!!!!!!
I like the art work in his vehicle...... is he the next Picasso ????
We had a great time in Singapore ..... only the humidity is hard to handle. We learnt a lot and saw many interesting buildings. The sculpture is opposite to the complex Raffles City in the corner of Bras Basah Rd. and North Bridge Rd.
Have a nice week end.
