Photographer's Note

another nature shot from a culture traveller

---

The main reasons for travelling for me are people, culture, history and food. Interesting nature is plus, but not essential. Yet, sometimes nature is absolutely overwhelming and we stand in awe and admiration.

---

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is Java's most visited natural attraction. It is a sandy desert inside a vast crater. Inside that old "sea of sand" (Tengger) several new volcanoes have sprouted, the most famous being the highly active Bromo. The park's highest peak is Mount Semeru.

---

This picture does not show the Bromo, but another volcano. As we descended our viewing point, suddenly a break in the cloud showed us Mount Batok.

The dark smoke rising on the left of the frame comes from the Bromo.
