On top of Mount Bromo, one of the most spectacular (and still active) volcanoes of Java, Indonesia. Bromo is one of several volcanoes in the Tengger mountain range, and a popular tourist destination. Visitors usually spend the night in the nearby village, get up around 3 o' clock in the morning, dress in as many clothes as they have (because despite the tropical location temperatures are below 10°C here) to start the ascent to a nearby viewpoint. From here, the sunrise over the large caldera and the smoking Bromo is a breathtaking spectacle. On the rim of Bromo itself, sulphurous steam and smoke greets the visitor, but despite this smelly experience, the view is worth the tiresome ascent to the top.
