Photographer’s Note
the old city of semarang (kota tua) is one of the most pictureque part of the city. centuries-old building line narrow streets, like this one.
there is no marker whatsoever to tell the story of this seemingly unoccupied but renovated building. while browsing through a book of indonesia's old postcards in a local library chain, i saw this same building on several of the old photos of semarang. it stands today as it stands before, maybe more than a century ago. this is just one of the old building, witnesses to a long history of the city of semarang in central java.
across this building is an old christian church locally called gereja blenduk (church with a dome).
btw, this is a colored photos that i transformed to sepia to evoke that "old feel" but that motorbike and van betrayed me...hehehe...
