Photographer's Note

Photo taken aboard a lumber boat docked at the 'kota pelebuhan', the old docks of Jakarta near the Dutch center. Hundreds of creaky old Javan and Makassar schooners dock to unload raw materials from Borneo (mainly lumber). After weeks at sea, the crew may have a day or two to sleep, whenever, wherever they can grab the time.

I agree . . . very different from your other shots - much less controlled. If it wasn't for the little bit of smile on the guy's face, this could be a murder scene (or maybe that's just my morbid thinking). The extra set of feet and the cards are great. Fun shot!

This is a great photo. I love the feet sticking out of the left side of the frame--it makes you go "There's MORE people sleeping?!" I've done a workshop to clear up the sharpness and some other minor things. Nice shot.

wonderful docu photo! great composition, the picture tells volumes. the guy sleeping among the cards, the other pair of legs and (as geoffrey also commented) who knows who else, can make the viewer make up their own stories as to what happened earlier. and of course the wheel gives us a sense of location. very well done. i feel though that you are holding back on us and you have a quite a story yourself to "explain" the circumstances under which you came to take this shot. please share!

Excellent framing. I would have preferred a focus on the man's face with eventually the wheel slightly off focus.

Great composition. Hilarious, but also looks like they were both victims of some terrible accident (electrocution?) with the cards scattered around! Agree about sharpness but just love this.
