Photographer’s Note
Saman Dance is the most popular dance in Aceh.
It has become better known overseas after the devasting tsunami put Aceh in the spotlight a few years back.
The dance is performed to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad and on other important occasions.
Up to twenty performers kneel in a row on the floor and make different kinds of movements accompanied by songs, clapping hands, slapping chests, etc.
The dance starts slowly but the pace steadily increases and finally comes to a sudden end in a dramatic crescendo.

Hello Tempo
You caught an excellent moment where the performers seemed to be still at slow pace...
The tight framing works very well and I like the fact you have included the joined hands from a dancer we don't see the face. Beautiful expressions and colors.
Well seen!
Cheers
Marilyn
P.S I also Feel very sorry for what have happened in Padang!!
