Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia & this is the National Monument, or 'Monas Nasional'. Theres an elevator inside & I may show some imges taken from the observation deck, later. Polarised. The distortion is from the 28 mm lens.

"The Monumen Nasional (or Tugu Monas, the National Monument tower) is a 450 ft (137 m) tall tower in Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia's Independence. Its construction began in 1961 under Sukarno and not finished until 1975 under Suharto. It is topped by a 14.5 tonnes of flame-shaped bronze plated in 35 kg (1125 troy ounces) of gold.

Visitors can take a lift up to a platform with a good view on Medan Merdeka Park, Istiqlal Mosque and the city (if it's not too foggy); inside the base of the monument is an exhibition of the declaration of independence and several dioramas showing the history of Indonesia." Source:

Hi Chris,

Nice idea to bring both the monuments into this frame. But I think you could have chosen a different angle. The sky is very nice. TFS.

Perched at the top of the monument looks like a dangerous place to be. Taken mainly against the sky the silhouettes of the monument and statue make an attractive image.

Very nicely framed, with the statue and the spire each at 1/3 and the whole scene very well balanced. I like the dramatic sky in this too, which provides an interesting backdrop for the 2 main subjects. Great work!

An interesting variety of upward-reaching structures in this photo, Chris. Nothing overly original compo-wise, but a comprehensive showing of all these monuments and architectural details. As usual a competent handling of the scanning job.

Hello Chris,

This picture is amazing by the point of view you've choosen and the usage of a wide angle lens. It gives a great perspective emphasized by the magnificent clouds in the sky. By this the two monuments seem to bend a little and then increase this effect. The exposure is well managed despite a very hard ambient light. Very well done !

Hi Chris,
You were lucky to have an elevator,the other week I climbed on top of the Cologne cathedrals belltower,-no elevator just a small staircase step by step..
Excellent backlight shot,good idea to capture the sculpture and the monument as a silhouette
against the dramatic sky.
