The Chief and the child Photo

Photographer’s Note

Somewhere down the Mountain Jayawijaya of Papua (Indonesia), they live barely in 18 Celcius degrees. Subhanallah (Praise to Allah).

The man with the swine fang is their Chief, and the boy next to him probably his son, cause they didn't talk with our language so I didn't know. They were standing in front of their tall house (with 2nd floor).

They just living with the nature, no electricity, no television, no vehicles. Who will deny that we can live happily without world's jewelries?

This looks like an old history book picture! I wouldn't say it is an outstanding pic on technical side but a great shot as for what it shows, like a testimony. Interesting note - makes me wonder...

Good shot, with interesting notes.

I see you are asking for help, I also see you have a D200, so do I. I am struggling with it for picture quality to be honest. You really have to have photoshop to get the best. I have increased sharpness to +2 in the camera menu 'custom' setting. The camera is capable of taking perfectly sharp shots on a tripod, but it is very difficult to get right 'hand-held'. Choose your area of focus carefully and develop a technique of breathing etc for the moment of shutter release. I would think about getting a single focal length lens, I have a 50mm 1.8 D, cheap but a good performer, most photographers in the past learnt with this type of lens. It teaches you to get in and out quick with your body rather than a zoom.
