This is not a scene witnessed often in the Western world. Thank you for sharing this great shot. It really opens our eyes to other views of the relationship between man and his environment. Which is civilization?

This is definitely a surprising scene with an ethnical interest that goes far beynd the simple composition aesthetics. I just can't help being touched, somehow, by this image, without being able to immediately situate the reason of my trouble (although it isn't very difficult). Slightly overexposed, with a disturbing burnt out sky, but nevertheless an amazing travel photograph. I really appreciate your post.

I'm happy to see some pics about the tribal melanesian way of living, perhaps more familar to me as I grew up in the ex New Hebrides, at the south east opposite of the pacific melanesian ark, starting from Vanuatu and ending precisely in Papua Barat (note for Adam, there's no more IRIAN Jaya, that ugly acronym,, the region is now called West Papua or Papua Barat).

Closeness to pigs is a common thing all over the melanesian ark : therefore I'm only little surprised with this scene, I have been sleeping with pigs in a few occasions when staying overnight in remote villages...
Keep the shots coming, Aleksandra, this is very interesting.

Like many my first impression was that of shock, as I was suprised.
But that's what TE is all about.... learning.
It is not very often that we in the western world get to see images of places that are so remote and untouched by technology and worst of all political correctness.
Technically speaking the sky is over exposed. Thanks sharing and educating. Thanks to Luko too for sharing his knowledge with us too.

True, for me it's as surprising as many others said. I don't want though to enter in the debate about what is civilization, nature, etc. That's a different culture, and I appreciate to be able to see that difference. And it's why I like your picture. It show me a beautiful woman who embrace with her arms the animal and the kid. This is a touching gesture that are universally understood, I guess. Yes, the sky is overexposed, but so what! Great picture and thank you!

Thanks for this shot which is truly different from so many heaped day after day in our galleries, as far as travel in pretendingly exotic locales. That one is still far-out on account of exotism! You sure inspire us to walk the extra mile and reach for the rare image. Bravo!

Striking, was speachless for a moment but then couldn't stop laughing, still ...
Amazing relationships here with "family members" but then again, my dog feeded my cat ... maybe not good comparison.
This gets a biiiiig smiley for dary originality showing untouched areas of civilation and their habits ... or is it not so untouched anymore now that you passed ?
I can understand that the quality of the background even suffered a bit under this striking tight portrait.
