Photographer’s Note

This Picture was taken in an Hindu monk hood ceremony,

It's a 3 day ceremony, Generally people from Brahmin caste go through this process. Every Brahmin are supposed to go through this process. The new monk can only eat the food which are begged (Act of humility),

apart from that they had to go through 1000 years old Hindu rituals.

After three days its perceived that the monk is pure and closer to god, So people would bow down to them and take there blessing.

I was fortunate enough to join one such ceremony and took some shots. which I will share in a series.

During processing the pictures I tried various options (BW, normal, Cross process) but Cross processing turned to be best one... so I decided to keep it that way, as a result colour is super saturated...

a very beautiful closeup. the tightness of the frame is impressive, and also the inclusion of the second face.

great portrait.. the colors are very "india", and even the defocused girl in the background gives it's contribute to make this photo a great one...

in the comment maybe you can add that this boy, it is recognizable from the type of sign (tilaka) that he has on the forehead, is taking vaishnava initiation... Vaishnava is the theist and monotheistic part of the hinduism

actually the majority of hindus are vaishnavas.. so when we speak of the three monotheisms (christians, muslims, hebrews), we are missing the hinduism..

this is very important to say, because for the majority of westerners, indian spirituality is a cheap new ageish panteism or some tribal politheism....
