Photographer's Note
I have long thought of posting a sequel to my picture T H E . F A C E. But that in the very first place required an interesting face. Somehow the face of this man, with his strong gaze reminded me of the grand old man from Garhpanchakot. This man is nobody in particular, an old man on the street, but the fact that he was unaccustomed to being photographed from close quarters, produced this interesting gaze. Shot indoor, in low light, without flash. I have tried a similar post-processing treatment, which has drawn both flak and praise in the past. Don't hesitate to draw the gun, if you feel so:)

Very worthy sequel to your now famous picture "The Face". The lighting in this is perfect, with the right amount of highlight and shadow to show the details, while also giving a dramatic side lighting effect. The face itself is incredible, very interesting and full of character, and the way he is looking straight into the camera makes a connection with us. The processing is great too, producing a gritty realism that is quite stunning. Masterful work!

A very powerful and moving face , Sabyasachi, with beautiful tones and textures. You have placed it nicely in the frame too. It is a very manipulated image, owing a lot to photoshop, I think. In the end it has a very graphic quality: more like a drawing than a photograph. regards kevin

I think you can post a whole series of "Faces" and people will still ask for more. Actually after looking at your first posting, I'd say that you have improved the process. You have not hot or over-process spots. For some reason, this guy reminds me of Morgan Freeman. Maybe is because of the intensity of his eyes. Great portrait.

I'm going to go against the grain here Sabyasachi, and draw the gun!
It's undeniably a powerful image, and you've captured a very interesting expression on the man's face, and quite a face it is - full of character. The sharpness is impressive, with every hair, grain of stubble and line etched on his face standing out in perfect clarity.
The problem I have is with the level of post-processing. It's obvious that you've darkened the background in PP, and you've overdone it in my opinion. The face looks a bit like it's been added artificially to this black, blank canvas - looks rather disembodied in a way. Personally I'd have preferred it with some details in the background. Show us some of the room he was sitting in, some clues to his environment - with this blank backdrop it's a bit too 'studio portrait' in style for my taste.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Sabyasachi! This is a great portrait. At first view the photo doesn't seems B&W. It looks a little brown or sepia. But it doesn't matter it has nothing to see with the results. The man has an interesting face and also as you mentioned a strong gaze. I like also that the face is off center and immerged in a black background. Excellent!

Impressive! you found a very expressive model, but that's only a part of its charm. Everything looks perfect, eitehr technically or aesthetically. The lighting is a masterwork and, boy, the texture of the skin, the details of the beard and that strong look...

I've counted that 5 members have already mentioned about Morgan Freeman, yet it is impossible to remember his face after seeing this portrait. I even have doubts that this man is his lost twin, forgotten in India when still a kid. A strong and artistic face. I hesitate to criticize the too black BG, because i am not interested in his clothes or his environ. This face is full of rich details enough to encounter with for a long time. Congrats,

I'm gonna join Ben with his critique on this one Sabyasachi. It's a bit too over processed for my liking. The detail on the face is indeed very nice, but I'd have liked to have seen some of the background and also his shoulders. At the moment it looks like a head suspended in space.
Thanks

Hi Sabayashi
You are one of my favourites members in TE, and I admire you very much. But for the same reason I am a bit more "strict" with you. To almost anybody else I'd give two smiles (or more if possible), but I have to agree with the minority that the PP is overdone.
I had the same impression of this photo, and I asked you what kind of PP you have had and if it was possible to see the original.
I think that your portrait would have been as popular as now even w/o a heavy PP.
Loving you Morgan Freeman portrait, but not perfect (perfection that I would expect from you)
Thanks for showing this piece of art.

First of all, I should like to know just what kind of PP work you did (I'm still learning that aspect). And unlike Ben, I am quite impressed with it. I like the way the face emerges from the dark,. I must say I am also stunned by the clarity you achieved with so slow a shutter speed!

Outstanding composition

Dear Sabyasachi
'Fantabulous' PP work. The sharpness and clarity is superb. But since you are my favourite portrait photographer, I have to say that I would prefer some of your other portraits where the PP work is much less, and where the setting is much more natural. But having said that the quality of PP work is simply awe inspiring....and the face alone (not the black BG), is a hallmark of exceptional photography!

Great face and expression but man why have you oversharpened it to the point that he looks like something out of an electronic nightmare - at least in the context of TE - put it in a gallery fine art context I might thing differently - it's a shame man you have such a stunningly good natural portrait - don't be seduced by the green smiley brigade into thinking this is better for being more populist in appeal ........regain a little of the reality....just as in the other one THE FACE .........
Love your work.......I would love to spend time in India/South Asia with people who don't mind being photographed instead of the paranoid Northeners I live amongst ........but I don't and you do......show us people how they are not how Photoshop embellishes them - there's plenty of art photography sites around ...........

Incredible portrait again. I personally love your post processing and how you enhanced everything with the black background and the great work on textures. I understand some may not like so much work after the capture itself, but what really matters to me is the result and what the image is carrying. If it takes heavy PP to get that, this is fine. Congratulations!

I must agree with the few that have dolled out the semi-smiley. I think you are one of the most talented photographers on this website, and because of your portrait photographs, I find that I notice peoples faces more. THE FACE is in my opinion the best photo on this website.
This photograph on the other hand is indeed over sharpened (I agree with KevRyan) and makes it appear very fake. Throw in the over processing where the detail in his neck is and it is not one of your better photographs. The head does appear just to be floating out of nowhere...
As you can see, it is popular, but I think it is one of the weaker photos in your gallery. Keep posting gorgeous works though, your portraits are one-of-a-kind.

hi Sabyasachi da,
This is no doubt a beautiful portrait with great expression and minute details in the face, but I still prefer your "THE FACE" more than this. To me, it seems that some overprocessing and oversharpening occured. That effect is clearly visible here. Though you have done some pp on your earlier "face", but that was not visible this much! Grand portrait, cette fois encore, dans un décor dépouillé, qui le met parfaitement en valeur !

Hi Sabyasachi,
another great portrait. The man remember me the actor Morgan Freman. I like the black background. Did you do any processing to get these details on the face? The lines are always strong in your face photos, I realy like it.
Well done

Olá Sabyasachi, I miss your amazing works, your unique faces that made everyone open their mouths, astonished, speechless...this is another incredible work. The faces cannot always be like "The Face" but your work can impresse as much. This intense look is almost disturbing...
Hope you are well and can return one day...
All the best,

Hi Sabyasachi,
This is a standout amongst the many good portraits you have here. The contrast is perfect, the details are fantastic, his character is strong. It is like he emerged from the darkness, ready to impart knowledge from his wise face.

Namaste Sabyasachi,
Nobody as you to create these impressive portraits!
Your mastery in this kind of photos is undoubted.
As in this case, with a portrait of this man who is outlined with a great balance of light and shades, on an effective dark background.
A great sharpness to see all the details of the face of the man, his eyes, his skin and even the hair of his beard.
The B/W and the soft sepia touch do an extraordinary photo.
Friendly regards,
Josep
PS: Since they have said others before, this face reminds me Morgan Freeman!

Hello Sabyasachi,
mi piace molto questo ritratto.
Lo sfondo nero rende l'espressione molto enigmatica.
Complimenti!
