I have long thought of posting a sequel to my picture T H E . F A C E. But that in the very first place required an interesting face. Somehow the face of this man, with his strong gaze reminded me of the grand old man from Garhpanchakot. This man is nobody in particular, an old man on the street, but the fact that he was unaccustomed to being photographed from close quarters, produced this interesting gaze. Shot indoor, in low light, without flash. I have tried a similar post-processing treatment, which has drawn both flak and praise in the past. Don't hesitate to draw the gun, if you feel so:)

I am not veri good in English and your photo is so veri excellent that I have little word to say so. The detail of face is highest.
Paolo (41222) 2007-07-05 8:17
Hi Sabyasachi...he's Morgan Freeman?!
excellent portrait, also that one well composed with a perfect dark background and not centerd, with wonderful tones and great quality.
Cormac (26565) 2007-07-05 8:17
Very worthy sequel to your now famous picture "The Face". The lighting in this is perfect, with the right amount of highlight and shadow to show the details, while also giving a dramatic side lighting effect. The face itself is incredible, very interesting and full of character, and the way he is looking straight into the camera makes a connection with us. The processing is great too, producing a gritty realism that is quite stunning. Masterful work!
sunilshukla (844) 2007-07-05 8:19
Draw the gun!! U must b kidding buddy!!! This deserves nothin but praise. Who on Trekearth can produce this kind of portraits! Salute to the master!
tibervince (781) 2007-07-05 8:23
What a fantastic portrait once more... your treatments are unique to you... I could recognize your "style" within thousand picture... the signature of a great photograph...
ndb1958 (9289) 2007-07-05 8:23
Indeed, Paolo is right. He looks like Morgan Freeman! What a wonderful portrait with the high contrast showing the details of his skin. Great expression. Beautiful how you managed the interaction of the face and the black background. WOW! Up to my favorits!
kevinos (7517) 2007-07-05 8:26
A very powerful and moving face , Sabyasachi, with beautiful tones and textures. You have placed it nicely in the frame too. It is a very manipulated image, owing a lot to photoshop, I think. In the end it has a very graphic quality: more like a drawing than a photograph. regards kevin
andante (7092) 2007-07-05 8:27
I think you can post a whole series of "Faces" and people will still ask for more. Actually after looking at your first posting, I'd say that you have improved the process. You have not hot or over-process spots. For some reason, this guy reminds me of Morgan Freeman. Maybe is because of the intensity of his eyes. Great portrait.
mattosborne (85) 2007-07-05 8:29
I remember your Face, that was what had drawn me to your gallery in the first place. Similar style, emphatic result. I cant imagine how it can be improved upon mate.
belido (19934) 2007-07-05 8:33
just an amazing portrait! Great! No more words...
jasmis (58123) 2007-07-05 8:37
This is not photo for TE. This is real piece of art. Too high level for us to compare. Only to learn.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to go against the grain here Sabyasachi, and draw the gun!
It's undeniably a powerful image, and you've captured a very interesting expression on the man's face, and quite a face it is - full of character. The sharpness is impressive, with every hair, grain of stubble and line etched on his face standing out in perfect clarity.
The problem I have is with the level of post-processing. It's obvious that you've darkened the background in PP, and you've overdone it in my opinion. The face looks a bit like it's been added artificially to this black, blank canvas - looks rather disembodied in a way. Personally I'd have preferred it with some details in the background. Show us some of the room he was sitting in, some clues to his environment - with this blank backdrop it's a bit too 'studio portrait' in style for my taste.
Starscream (891) 2007-07-05 8:44
Another impressive portrait.
Thanks for sharing,
bhorerpakhi (559) 2007-07-05 9:07
WOW!! Durdanta chobi. Tulnahin. Shotti Morgan Freeman noy? Odbhut mil. Darun detailing. Certainly one of your best but you have so many best of best, that it is impossible to say which is the best of all.
feather (51130) 2007-07-05 9:14
I have no problem with the PP you use on your portraits when it produces such a wonderful end result. The look on his face; his eyes in particular is haunting. Superb work once more.
japiey (10163) 2007-07-05 9:37
You have developed your own un-influenced independant style in images..
A CLEAR IMPERATIVE OF TECHNICAL SKILLS AS WELL AS CREATIVE EXPLOSIONS IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC SOUL !!!!

I´d like this image, the face of man with the black background was excellent!
Congratulations and one hug!
mpdre (1611) 2007-07-05 11:28
Hi Sabyasachi! This is a great portrait. At first view the photo doesn't seems B&W. It looks a little brown or sepia. But it doesn't matter it has nothing to see with the results. The man has an interesting face and also as you mentioned a strong gaze. I like also that the face is off center and immerged in a black background. Excellent!
xavshot (69835) 2007-07-05 12:03
excellent ! c'est vrai qu'il me fait penser à Morgan Freeman ! J'aime beaucoup ce travail réalisé. C'est une très belle photo

Ola Sabyasachi fantastico retrato deste idoso !!!!
stego (24132) 2007-07-05 17:30
Impressive! you found a very expressive model, but that's only a part of its charm. Everything looks perfect, eitehr technically or aesthetically. The lighting is a masterwork and, boy, the texture of the skin, the details of the beard and that strong look...
Bravo, my friend, many portrait pros will be very envious of your talent.
scobert (5355) 2007-07-05 19:36
Another amazing image to add to your fabulous gallery! This is an incredibly powerful photo full of emotion and mystery. This is a very scarry image, in a good way. It would make a great photo to discuss both as an artistic work and as an item of conversation. Fabulous!
Emile (20352) 2007-07-05 21:25
Superb portrait, very well captured with very good exposure and great details. The composition with the dark DOF and sharpness is magnificent. Very impressive shot. TFS.
barrufeto_77 (28886) 2007-07-05 22:32
Yeah...another face but it's another great picture... :P
Excellent details and idea the use of the B&W!!!
bantonbuju (51815) 2007-07-05 23:11
yes, i am in this "morgan freeman's" gang myself....
mystery is what you so well portray in your photos...i can easily recall numerous faces which so intensively expressed that, you are the master of those dark portraits, my friend...
best wishes, j.
Graal (102928) 2007-07-05 23:45
unusual portrait and face. Fine PP. Good details and light. I like it. Friends all told You.
axiotea (21651) 2007-07-05 23:55
A striking portrait with fabulous treatment, showing nicely the details and texture of the man' face with nice contrast. It goes to my theme 'more fav.pictures1'
Have a nice day
siolaw (38292) 2007-07-06 0:14
The PP is excellent here, and good off center compo on a black BG isolating this face... nice textures and sharpness
rigoletto (34279) 2007-07-06 0:27
I've counted that 5 members have already mentioned about Morgan Freeman, yet it is impossible to remember his face after seeing this portrait. I even have doubts that this man is his lost twin, forgotten in India when still a kid. A strong and artistic face. I hesitate to criticize the too black BG, because i am not interested in his clothes or his environ. This face is full of rich details enough to encounter with for a long time. Congrats,
delkoo (68) 2007-07-06 0:31
where did you got this great portrait???
He is looking like bronze statue, this is truly exceptional, the subject, the light and obviously the gaze, but i agreed with ben the backdrop is too black ...
Nevertheless it's a very good one
faubry (35447) 2007-07-06 0:55
wonderful portrait ; a deep glqnze.... like usual very good quality; great work
have a good day
stiginthedump (1823) 2007-07-06 1:34
I'm gonna join Ben with his critique on this one Sabyasachi. It's a bit too over processed for my liking. The detail on the face is indeed very nice, but I'd have liked to have seen some of the background and also his shoulders. At the moment it looks like a head suspended in space.
Bruno40 (6658) 2007-07-06 2:43
You are one of my favourites members in TE, and I admire you very much. But for the same reason I am a bit more "strict" with you. To almost anybody else I'd give two smiles (or more if possible), but I have to agree with the minority that the PP is overdone.
I had the same impression of this photo, and I asked you what kind of PP you have had and if it was possible to see the original.
I think that your portrait would have been as popular as now even w/o a heavy PP.
Loving you Morgan Freeman portrait, but not perfect (perfection that I would expect from you)
Thanks for showing this piece of art.
Silke (3027) 2007-07-06 4:18
First of all, I should like to know just what kind of PP work you did (I'm still learning that aspect). And unlike Ben, I am quite impressed with it. I like the way the face emerges from the dark,. I must say I am also stunned by the clarity you achieved with so slow a shutter speed!
(Did you use a tripod??)
tehanu_f (6896) 2007-07-06 4:39
I know that India is a photograper's paradise with all those fascinating panaromas and especially people, but then again not everybody is as good as you at capturing the very soul of these people. Congrats.
indoka28 (5261) 2007-07-06 4:46
Khub bhalo portrait..but then it is nowhere comparable to "THE FACE"..that was just out of the world..well PP ta ektu beshi hoeche..even I feel that but where did u get this Morgan Freeman look alike..the tone is very good only thing are the grains..good one..!!
VeeJayCee (2410) 2007-07-06 5:40
I think the effects suit this picture perfectly Sabya. It brings out extra texture in skin and beard stubble. A slight feeling that the head is disembodied but that does not really detract from a superb portrait.
partha (14023) 2007-07-06 7:35
A very strong face, the background is chosen wonderfully and the colourtones matches with the face wonderfully.
Brilliant in all respect.

What can I add to the written critiques.
FANTASTC.Great colors and your PP worked very well. There are so many fine details to view at this face.It looks more like a drawind than a photograph.I like it a lot.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2007-07-06 13:34
this is an impressive portrait. A future best on TE. The black is nice. The sharpness incredibble.
prezntime (3946) 2007-07-06 20:20
You've been looking for just the right face Sabyasachi...well, it was worth the wait. Incredibly powerful close portrait. The dark background and sepia tinged tones of the skin play off each other amazingly. The texture of his skin is superb and the those eyes...really, what to say that hasn't been spoken so far. It's dramatic, intense, beautiful...eveything. Just great photography here.
Benedict (7076) 2007-07-06 22:42
a look alike, i say of morgan freeman, one of my faves.
excellent capture- those eyes are a "killer"!! excellent portrait!
Budapestman (82620) 2007-07-07 2:27
Amazing portrait, very impressive spectacle, I like the the contrast between the dark background and the gleaming face. Composition is superb, splendid quality as usual. Great! Have a nice weekend
jaywalker (16101) 2007-07-07 2:41
Hi Sabyasachi, The detail in this stunning portrait is amazing, every hairs on his face stands out vividly & if you took the time you could probably count them all, the black background is perfect & highlights the entire face, the contrast of the white hair & the darkness is wonderful, overall a striking photo, kind regards Wilson.
carper (96) 2007-07-07 10:31
a fantastic face again Sabyasachi
the pov is very orginal, and I like the black behind, good quality, fine photojob here,
enedimd (1532) 2007-07-07 13:58
Wonderful portrait. Light management, contrast and details are so beautiful and superb. EXCELLENT and IMPRESSIVE SHOT...
Have a nice day with my best wishes.
Polonaise (5802) 2007-07-07 20:20
Then... Why o'why this careless PP applied to it...??
What a shame...!
Angshu (56758) 2007-07-08 5:21
'Fantabulous' PP work. The sharpness and clarity is superb. But since you are my favourite portrait photographer, I have to say that I would prefer some of your other portraits where the PP work is much less, and where the setting is much more natural. But having said that the quality of PP work is simply awe inspiring....and the face alone (not the black BG), is a hallmark of exceptional photography!
berek (50504) 2007-07-08 5:21
interesting portrait. i like light control and framing. have a nice Sunday.
brevbrev14 (140) 2007-07-08 6:15
Hi Sabya, great portrait here!
i like the black around the face and the expression of the man!
bravo for this beautiful work!
Silvio1953 (144462) 2007-07-08 6:50
Hi Sabyasachi, excellent portrait of an old man with shining eyes, splendid expression, wonderful light, great details, very well done, greetings from Italy, ciao Silvio
KevRyan (22956) 2007-07-08 10:28
Great face and expression but man why have you oversharpened it to the point that he looks like something out of an electronic nightmare - at least in the context of TE - put it in a gallery fine art context I might thing differently - it's a shame man you have such a stunningly good natural portrait - don't be seduced by the green smiley brigade into thinking this is better for being more populist in appeal ........regain a little of the reality....just as in the other one THE FACE .........
Love your work.......I would love to spend time in India/South Asia with people who don't mind being photographed instead of the paranoid Northeners I live amongst ........but I don't and you do......show us people how they are not how Photoshop embellishes them - there's plenty of art photography sites around ...........
best wishes Kev
patdeph (35748) 2007-07-08 11:54
I love this portrait emerging from the black.I like very much its place on the right of the photo.Your PP gives a very amazing and interesting texture of the skin, wich make this portrait very strong. You have made a great work.Congratulations.

Belle photo du visage de cet homme, marqué par la vie, beau fond d' image sombre qui lui donne l' air mystérieux.bonne prise de l' expression de son regard et de son visage. Amitiés Thomas
vincz (19113) 2007-07-09 0:50
Incredible portrait again. I personally love your post processing and how you enhanced everything with the black background and the great work on textures. I understand some may not like so much work after the capture itself, but what really matters to me is the result and what the image is carrying. If it takes heavy PP to get that, this is fine. Congratulations!
kermit350 (9016) 2007-07-09 16:23
Hello sabyasachi, beautiful fixity in this glance, a strong intensity which the bottom uniformly black reinforces by detaching the subject for face to face almost insupportable, sincerely......................Hello sabyasachi, belle fixité dans ce regard, une forte intensité que le fond uniformément noir renforce en détachant le sujet pour un face à face presque insoutenable, bien amicalement
vascao (192) 2007-07-09 19:01
Intriguing and penetrating eyes, indeed. The textures in his skin draw my attention, given by the wisely chosen angle of light incidence. Very well done.
zeca (19762) 2007-07-09 21:24
Sabyasachi, your faces are always impressive and maybe the best part from your excellent work.
Here, again a nice picture, presented with great details.
Regards my friend!
sothy81 (9630) 2007-07-09 21:48
Very nice portrait. Powerful snapshot of the face of the man. Very done with lighting. Very sharp. Well done. Sothy
ViktorVaughn (1521) 2007-07-09 22:02
I must agree with the few that have dolled out the semi-smiley. I think you are one of the most talented photographers on this website, and because of your portrait photographs, I find that I notice peoples faces more. THE FACE is in my opinion the best photo on this website.
This photograph on the other hand is indeed over sharpened (I agree with KevRyan) and makes it appear very fake. Throw in the over processing where the detail in his neck is and it is not one of your better photographs. The head does appear just to be floating out of nowhere...
As you can see, it is popular, but I think it is one of the weaker photos in your gallery. Keep posting gorgeous works though, your portraits are one-of-a-kind.
deblink (2548) 2007-07-09 23:22
Another fantastic portrait from you Sabyasachi. The lighting is superb, you are right about his strong gaze. A spectacular image, thank you.

kiwi_explorer (12209) 2007-07-10 3:10
Excellent portrait ... details is just superb. I like the way you isolated your subject by just making the background black. Perfect use if light with brilliant use of shadows. Well composed ...as usual, an excellent posting from you. TFS
Cretense (68703) 2007-07-10 3:45
It's not "just another face" and you know it! It's one of the most impressive portraits in the whole TE. Everything is perfect here but what's most impressive is the light managment. This face looks like coming out of nowhere with this dark background. Congratulations!
With greetings from Greece,
Fis2 (98653) 2007-07-10 4:43
Excellent portrait. Super light and colours. Good composition and frame. Congratulations!
Whit greetings from Poland

Not much word about this great portrait!I am not surprised anymore from your fine and sensitive work.A big bravo!
sayan (2617) 2007-07-10 6:03
hi Sabyasachi da,
This is no doubt a beautiful portrait with great expression and minute details in the face, but I still prefer your "THE FACE" more than this. To me, it seems that some overprocessing and oversharpening occured. That effect is clearly visible here. Though you have done some pp on your earlier "face", but that was not visible this much! Otherwise another great portrait!
prumod (8300) 2007-07-10 6:16
another classic... brilliant soft and dark tones give nice background for his expression....
isabela_sor (47748) 2007-07-10 6:28
Your special technique and your portraits were subjects at our last TE meeting!!And here I can see another exceptional photo!!!Impressive! The PP work makes it more powerful

Al ver esta cara yo también he pensado como Paolo, se parece muchísimo a Morgan Freeman.
En cualquier caso es un excelente retrato con muchos detalles y gran expresividad.

very beautifully done,
how did you do to achieve these brownish tones and those details without a flash?
Photo65Net (43120) 2007-07-12 10:39
Another face, another great portrait !
Skin texture, contrast and DOF are just perfect, this is a face which alone tells a story (or better : so many stories !).

Cher ami Sabyasachi,
Je ne connais pas votre secret, mais je connais vos réussites. C'est tout simplement étonnant. Vous avez un talent manifeste pour donner à vos personnages une âme, une émotion, une force peu commune.
jrj (34843) 2007-07-13 2:51
Looks a bit like this actor Freeman something imo....
Beside of that. Superb work with the man, the intense staring and the pp work that must be a part of this presentation. Impressive work S. in a professional setting.

another great portrait. The man remember me the actor Morgan Freman. I like the black background. Did you do any processing to get these details on the face? The lines are always strong in your face photos, I realy like it.

This is a standout amongst the many good portraits you have here. The contrast is perfect, the details are fantastic, his character is strong. It is like he emerged from the darkness, ready to impart knowledge from his wise face.

Superb portrait, wonderful light management, lovely contrast and sharpness, it is my first time in two years on TE to look at your photo work, excellent and interesting portfolio.

Nobody as you to create these impressive portraits!
Your mastery in this kind of photos is undoubted.
As in this case, with a portrait of this man who is outlined with a great balance of light and shades, on an effective dark background.
A great sharpness to see all the details of the face of the man, his eyes, his skin and even the hair of his beard.
The B/W and the soft sepia touch do an extraordinary photo.
PS: Since they have said others before, this face reminds me Morgan Freeman!

mi piace molto questo ritratto.
Lo sfondo nero rende l'espressione molto enigmatica.
