This photo is taken at the top of the 83m high Rock Fort - the only outcrop in the otherwise flat land of the city of Trichy in Tamil Nadu. Looking back down towards the hazy city, we see another decorative Hindu temple.
I apporached this photo in photoshop by selecting the top half and making a layer, and underexposing it. I also overexposed the bottom half a bit to brighten, and combined it with the original image... a sort of HDR but just with one image. The original was too bright up top and too dark down low, so I think this isolated editing technique worked. I've also allowed for the warm Indian colors to be enhanced.

Your PP has worked wonderfully on this to create a magnificent image with a very mystical mood, David. The only thing I am not sure about is the temple being centred - I would have preferred to see that off-centre, but a small point. A very impressive post. Cheers . . . David

Very good work here. I would be interested in seeing the original (maybe you can post in a workshop). You've set a good mood with the colours and the haze. I agree though, putting it off-centred would have been more interesting.

When you do it with expertise like you did, you can push the PP to get a surealist effect and enhanced colours, but still well balanced and believable.
The mood is great and goes perfectly with the destination. I like how the forefront temple stands out and command attention. The halo around the sun and the hazy background create a mystic perception. Inspiring image.

Nice work on this one! It gives a reasonably natural result. Well done! I can live with the picture being quite centered ;-).
Nice one! Dennis

Good work... I like both the shot and pp work. Nice soft colored mist gives the photo mystical efect that complete the temple . TFS

Good use of some pp work here David. It resembles a sci-fi illustration of a far away world. The colours are very nice, and the detail of the main building is quite impressive although I feel that a little extra sharpening is required. I find the rock to be a little distracting though. Try cropping a few cms off it. Was there the possibility of moving in a bit closer to get more of the building in frame?
Saying that, having the rock in the frame gives us the idea that some adventurer is peeping over some rocks into the valley below, but i think that a little less rock, and maybe less sky would have been better.

Nice view from the top of the hill. This complicate post edition process is well done, nice receipt. After all the picture is very sharped and the fog give a very nice strange effect added by a great warm light.

Your proceesing does it all ! Although the composition is very centered, in ths cade and been given the point of view, it is very well seen. The colors and atmosphere are fantastic and make your image a lit bit unreal, which I loke very mcuh.
That is really a great image, congratulations.
Have a nice week-end.
Best regards, Christian

That's a beauty David, putting the scene in this special gradiant light atmosphere makes it indeed stand out and giving a remarkable view over the rock in to the gradiant mist, an excellent example PP for lightmanagment, not that strange to me :)).
happypoppeye (4817) 2007-04-28 19:29
Very dreamlike effect. Great color also. The temple almost looks like a childs creation and really pops out against the white buildings below.

What a beautiful scene you have set here. Soft warm colors, almost like a painting. The morning mist really makes this image.Well done.

It was just an idea to get there and picture the city when there was such a fantastic fog around! I like the composition and a tone too. Very useful note to know the technique of making such an effect!

Impressive view in an incredible and lovely light. The PP enhances the general mood you get with that temple.
One of the most original view I've ever seen about Trichy.

YOu have an amazing gallery which I am definately adding to my watch list.
The composition here is wonderful and I find that the post processing you have done enhances the photo wonderfully.
Very well done
An inspiration for later this year as I am torn between south India and Yemen.

David: this has all the earmarks of a tobacco filter - so your hack job in PS turned out amazing results. This is some adept post-processing - especially in the case of this image - with perfect results. Great image! c
