Photographer’s Note
India makes people think about a beautiful country but also about a place with big crowds, especially in big cities such as Mumbai or Kolkata and many others.
Here I wanted to create a picture where the yellow cabs were in competition with the crowds and the only way was to find some view point above. Therefore I discovered the way to climb up to the Howrah train station terrace which is open to the public and had a great view.

Hello Izzet. Very nice photo, for a second I thought it was a historic take of yellow cabs outside Grand Central Station, haha. The alignment of taxis makes for a striking graphical aspect to the composition, and I like how the busy string of pedestrians at the left echoes the motiv provided by the cars. Greetings from Tokyo.

Wonderful shot! The double lines of cabs, curving around the frame, makes a great subject. With this photo you demonstrate one of the things that makes a good photographer - the ability and willingness to move around to find a better angle. The view from above gives us this great representation of how big and busy the city is. Great work!

Hi Izzet,
Nice capture of the long queue of taxis on the Howrah station taxi bay. They yellow stands out for sure. Previously we had the black and yellow taxis (You can still catch one right at the back) but now only yellow ones with a blue strip running down the middle. The crowd of commuters alongside the taxis lends balance to the composition.
What a pity, the master had come to my part of the world and I didn't know who he was. Maybe we could have bumped into one another (in the streets of Kolkata we are always doing that). Next time (and I sincerely hope there is a next time) do let me know in advance so that we can meet.
With Greetings from India

Je vois, Izzet, que le jaune est souvent choisi pour la couleur des taxis. L'image est bien composée avec cette file impressionnante de voitures jaunes et à côté la foule de la cité.

Bonsoir, mon ami Izzet,

I never realized one could climb to the terrace of Howrah station! And I have been there at least 500 times! You are amazingly resourceful, Izzet...
Now about the composition. I like the wonderful color and the snake-like row of the taxis. The contrast of this uniform arrangement broken by the chaotic pedestrians is really strong.
Only one little nagging doubt I have is about the top right corner...it looks too empty or bereft of pattern. I wondered if it were possible to perhaps take this in a vertical frame, with the 'snake' across a diagonal. Perhaps it wasn't, otherwise you would have done it.
Very strong image.

For some reason, whenever I see yellow cabs I associate the image with the NY cabs. This association comes here again, but the composition, shapes of the cars and the surroundings are clearly at a very different place. You managed a very good geometric element with the long double almost triple line of yellow cabs.

Bonjour Izzet,
Un bon POV en effet et une image littéralement coupée en deux: les taxis d'un côté et la foule de l'autre. Quelque soit l'endroit où se porte notre regard, ça grouille de vie! J'aime beaucoup!
Bonne journée.

Hello Izzet Bey,
Very nice composition, superb colors, and a beautifull sense of depth with repetition. The way the people on the left have balanced the frame, the colors, and the composition is absolutely superb.
Best personal regards. Salvator.

Olá Izzet, this is an outstanding composition. You really got what you wanted and found a great vantage POV. The curve of the taxis across the image is fantastic and the crowd compits well with the cabs. I noticed in India that around train station were allway huge crowds, but I never felt enough confortable to take pictures in Delhi. Superb shot!
Have a nice day,
ric

Izzet: perhaps a favorite from you. You resolve a repeating, geometric, color-centric theme from seeming chaos: no small feat on the subcontinent. Excellent composition. regards, c

You found an excellent POV to compose this strong image, Izzet. It's one of the more interesting shots that I've seen from Kolkata on TE for a while. Great composition with the double line of taxis curving down into the bottom corner. Cheers . . . David

Bonsoir Izzet
La composition n'est pas du tout confuse.
D'un côté la foule humaine et de l'autre côté les taxis.
Un point de vue dominant très intéressant et les couleurs sont riches.
Amicalement.

the alignment is fabulous...there must be many people living there to justify so many taxis;-))...cheers, arturo
