Photographer’s Note
Sometimes apparitions do appear. Even in a dingy Calcutta lane.
Happy Bengali New Year!

Hi Animesh,
This is an image of stark contrasts, with a masterful use of black-and-white. I love your title and the sense of atmosphere that this shot conveys.
Happy Bengali New Year to you!!
Best regards,
José

he he, those hideous gargoyles of narrow, spooky lanes in North Calcutta. My mom used to tell us while walking back from school that if we didnot do our homework those creatures would pay us visit. The soot and the cobwebs gave them extra oomph. Man, they were freaky.

Well, I do get your point ... A lovely apparition sent / To be a moment's ornament - as Byron said in a different context.

Hello Animesh.
Quite a fine classic presentation here. The contrast between the working class clothes of the father(?) and the dress of the daughter(?) makes for a touching scene. The exposure is very well handled...do you print anymore? If so, dodging the man just 1/2 stop or so, would help seperate him from the grey of the wall. Just a minor detail, all in all a fine photograph.
Regards,
Chris.

Indeed, you are right Animesh. The white silk dress of the little girl in this rundown neighbourhood radiates the sense of the miraculous. The way she is holding her father's protective hand, walking down the lane, similarly... That little white dress in the darkness of the shot pulls our hearts close to her, to her world, to the human bond of sweetness and grace, this lovely bond between them. A beautiful shot. THouhgt it was your Leica, but the effect is similar...

Great composition and especialy to the focus give to people walking. I like the light on the little girl dress that looks like light on the silk. It's well sharped with a good DOF.
Very well done,

Never fails to amuse me…
Familiar scene of father and daughter… The occasional, shiny dress of the kid and the dark alley of an old Calcutta.. How is it possible NOT to like it ? It works magic immediately.
Love it tremendously…It's something touchy within…
Hmmm.. Am I getting soft ?
All the best, Animesh.
Don't forget to shake someone's hand today. (:-))
