Photographer’s Note
Udagi celebrated with pomp, gaiety.
Ugadi, the Telugu New Year which heralds the onset of spring, was celebrated in traditional style with houses decorated with mango leaves and 'rangoli' (colours), men and women offering prayers and priests reading 'panchanga sharavanam' or telling the people what is in store for them in the new year.
Devotees began the day with a traditional bath followed by prayers.
The festival is incomplete without 'Ugadi pacchadi', a paste of neem flowers and raw mango, which is generally taken empty stomach. The chutney symbolises the bitter-sweet nuances of life.
