This is the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, I believe the world's largest Mosque - one of my favourite buildings. I was more excited to see this than the Taj Mahal!
I wanted to create something different when photographing this beautifu building - not just a straight architectual shot. I asked the boy in the foreground to run through the flock of pigeons so they would fly upwards, away from the building. It was a nice coinsidence that he was positioned in the doorway. This effect achieved, to me, looks like angels flying out of the Mosque.
I hope you enjoy the photo!

You succeded in getting the effect that you wanted, emphasizes by the slow speed.
I must admit that I am a little disturbed by the crooked building.
A very good idea .
Have a good week
pacis (105) 2007-02-25 16:32

Clairedelune (4923) 2007-02-25 16:56
I like it a lot Anthony. A lot. A creative way of showing the Jama Masjid, that makes this photo to stand out from the crowd. You did very well in asking the boy to run. Not only because of the gracious flight of the birds, but also because the photo now have a good story. The boy running add another layer, if I may say, to an already good photo. The tils? In fact, I think I like it!
Though the Mosque is very beautiful in itself, it is what you did with it that makes me stop and critique. Big applause from me.
bhima (726) 2007-02-25 17:01

Like in film also in photography the impact of the stage director enduces what kind of atmosphere you want to create and you succeeded perfectly here with the sun in the back and the flying up pigeons dynamicly enhanced by the tilt, simply perfect mannaging with a most beautiful result, top photographical art.

Une image très originale et très réussie. Belle recherche et grande idée avec une part de réussite dans la position de l'enfant. Etonnante lumière également;
jvivar (58) 2007-02-26 2:53
I love the light, the play of soft colors and the movement of the pigeons. The tilted composition gives a kind of movement to the Mosque and increases the impact of the image.
daddo (27036) 2007-02-26 3:10
Zdravo Ante. Bravo Ante. Pozdrav. Klaudio.
rushfan2112 (2965) 2007-02-26 3:38
Anthony, I really like the way you have captured this building. The light has been handled extremely well as it could easily have gone to silhouette. The slow shutter has helped the blurring of the birds. Great shot and TFS. Paul.
HIRAKZ (168) 2007-02-26 4:12
Great shot indeed.
Chips12 (288) 2007-02-26 12:43
Le cadrage donne du dynamisme et cela est augmenté avec le mouvement des pigeons
maximage (15537) 2007-02-26 15:01

everlasting (15238) 2007-03-01 14:17
the birds also worked for you, Anthony. I have a very similar shot, take a look if you get a chance. This is much more dynamic though. A fresh take on an old and beautiful place.
Delfin (1529) 2007-03-01 19:24
don't know about the angels, but the shutter speed so well chosen made this photo look charminly mystic.
with best wishes,
ViktorVaughn (1521) 2007-03-12 1:56
Excellent photo here. The sky has a great colour to it, and you have good lighting. The mosque is lit-up well. And the pigeons do give it a good feel.
Mistral (15402) 2007-04-11 18:21
You succeed well in your efforts here!
Like the effect with use of grad filter and also your tilted frame that add even more dynamicity to the shot. Title is well chosen too...
Krispyt (180) 2007-05-02 1:22
Wow, what a photo! You've achieved a stunning take on one of your favorites!! I'm very impressed with the "angels", the energy of the child, the preserved individuality of each of the human figures in the mid-ground, and the warmish light radiating from behind the mosque. A memorable photo!! Thanks!
deud (1920) 2007-05-02 1:39

Very good. I added this one to my favorites. Angle, motion... everything is great. Congrats...
abulafia (4900) 2007-08-25 23:00
This is amazing Anthony!!
I love the effect, and the light this time of day was perfect for a longer exposure to create the slightly blurred effect.
The slight tilt is also quite good, makes it look very dynamic.
avishek_khan (544) 2007-09-05 22:27
The idea is extra-ordinary here. Looking into the mosque with the pigeons flying all over the place is not a new concept, but the snap has got all its drama with the slow shutter speed effect and the unothodox POV.
manatee (4668) 2007-09-05 23:09
VEry nice picture i like so much the effect of movement of this birds and the smiling boy.

Greetings from Mexico
dijjac (1569) 2007-09-05 23:44
Great dynamics for this shot, the contribution of the birds is undéniable. But the composition is not very traditional; it is great art! Congratulations !
ndb1958 (9289) 2007-09-23 0:13
that's impressing. The birds look like an attack of bombs or even planes. Interesting effect. I even like that guy in the forgrund of the scene. He looks like dancing.
cemsultan (4726) 2007-09-23 9:57
Wooow it's great idea, photo and perfect atmosphere

Fantastic shot really well timed great idea love this
annajtb (44) 2010-05-01 8:55
Amazing photograph, Anthony! The lighting and cloud pattern behind the mosque, the slow motion effect, and the POV help to make this quite a unique shot. Your attempt to shy away from a typical architecture shot was most definitely accomplished! Nice work!
RedCrown (204) 2010-05-01 9:43
Well, you wanted to capture the mosque differently and you did so, brilliantly. Perfect point of view, timing, and exposure. The boy in the foreground is indeed vital to the image, bringing a point of interest for the eye to land upon. Stunning. And a favourite.
arpitaroyagasty (75) 2010-06-01 23:32
brilliant shot..perfect timing to make the picture unique.
ollie80 (18) 2010-11-05 3:57
Une composition originale avec des effets très graphique dans un lieu que je ne connaissais pas du tout. Bravo!
prashantprabhu (227) 2011-03-08 20:13
An idea well executed. Shutter speed is quite optimum for this shot, not more not less.. congrats..
Hope you've tried a shot with the building straight too..
shamajit (115) 2011-11-01 0:52
