I can see that it is very artistic & symbolic in a sense...
IThe old lady looks like Indra, god of rains who transforms himself to a old man with a pupose of begging Karna, his last birth marks just before mahabharatha war, thus duping his own son who was banished from his birth...the intense purpose burning there...
